^^I don't trust Beasley away from Lebron and the Heat. James keeps him in check and focused.

Dumping Jennings will be tougher because there are already a ton of good PG's in the league.

Bulls wouldnt do Smith for Deng not after Rose got hurt. Also Denver has too many bigs to get another in Smith.

I would focus on trading Smith to a desperate team like New York or Thunder

How bout this deal:

To Thunder: Josh Smith
Why? Smith >>>> Perkins, Perry Jones, Steven Adams

To Detroit: Afflalo, Perkins, Adams, Davis
Why? Take on Perkins, Davis, Afflalo (22M of salary0 in exchange for Adams and AA as a starter

To Magic: KCP, Perry Jones, Mitchell, Stuckey
Why? Dump 13M of salary in exchange for a productive expiring in Stuckey who may resign and KCP, Jones, Mitchell

Jennings / Bynum
Afflalo / Billups
Singler / Datome / Jerebko
Monroe / Davis / Charlie V
Drummond / Adams / Perkins

We could then move Singler (1M), Charlie V (8M expiring), and Adams for a SF
We get a redo on Smith at the cost of taking on Perkins but we get Adams who would look great off the bench as the 3rd big. This is a deal that would lead to another deal for the Pistons.

Thunder say no; they're very high on adams and he is their center of the future so to speak

I think we're in a very tough situation. The Big 3 clogs our offense and we have no shooting. We aren't trading Smith and his 4/54mill contract and we should not trade Monroe unless the deal is absolutely right for us. There just aren't a lot of 3's out there with teams that need bigs. The ONLY team i see is the celtics with Green and I'm not sure I'm in on him. Furthermore, we probably still make the playoffs with this team which sucks because, as Bill Simmons put it, Joe D keeps his job. If he moves Monroe for a 3 that fits and we improve by a couple more wins/higher seed that sucks too because Joe D keeps his job.

Is there any way we could get Green without giving up Smith? I did the trade checker and came up with Singler and CV for him, although i dont think Boston would do that. It would be pretty crazy though if we had Green/Smith/Drummond starting with Monroe off the bench. Just speculation

Detroit in: Jeff Green, Ronnie Brewer
Detroit out: Josh Smith

Boston in: Omer Asik
Boston out: Jeff Green

Houston in: Josh Smith
Houston out: Omer Asik, Ronnie Brewer

Thoughts?

Love it. Not sure how much Boston values Asik, however.

Yeah that is my thinking as well. Asik's value is difficult to gauge. I think Houston jumps all over it though.

Take Houston out of that trade, take Smith out of that trade, and do Monroe + JJ for Green and a pick.

No way unless it's their 2014 pick. Dumping Smith for a productive two-way SF is an opportunity we couldn't pass up. I'm guessing you like Smith more than Monroe though, which I disagree with.

I do. In my opinion, Smith's Defense+Shot blocking at PF is much better than what we get from Monroe. If Monroe isn't giving you anything on offense, he isn't giving you anything. If Smith isn't giving you offense, he's still an imposing defender. I think moving Smith to PF (and putting him closer to the hoop and giving him more speed than the players he'd be going against) would significantly improve his offense that he's displayed this year and give us at equal offense to what Monroe has been giving us.

His defense has been better this year so he deserves credit for that. Also, Smith has been arguably the worst defender on this team so defense is not a plus for Smith. Lastly, even though Monroe has been up and down this season, he has still been far more up than Smith has.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Smith's defense at PF is significantly better than his defense at SF. At SF he's very underwhelming, but at PF he's one of the best PFs in the game. People are overreacting to his play out of position this year. He's significantly better at defense than Monroe, and to say he isn't based on his defense out of position this year is absurd.

That's a fair point but you make it sound like Smith is a completely different player at PF. He is still a bonehead chucker no matter which position he plays. The only difference is that he will grab a couple extra rebounds and block an extra shot. I would rather stick with Monroe who is younger, bigger, a better rebounder, and has a polished low post game. We can agree to disagree though.

TO DETROIT:
PF/C Maybyner Nene
SF Martell Webster

TO WASHINGTON:
PF Josh Smith
SF/PF Jonas Jerebko

Washington gets the stretch-4 he's been wanting and they become even more athletic. Jerebko provides depth.

Wall
Beal
Ariza / Porter
Smith
Gortat

We get a shooter we could start at SF and Nene backup up our two young studs.

Here are some more attempts at trading Monroe, to move Smith to PF. Ideally the Pistons get a starter at SF in return, someone who helps spacing.

Which of these deals do you see as
a) most realistic ?
b) working well for the Pistons ?
c) how can picks etc be tweaked to make it work ?

1. Detroit sends out:
Greg Monroe
Charlie Villanueva

Denver sends back:
Danilo Galinari
future pick

------------

2. Detroit sends out:
Greg Monroe

Washington sends back:
Otto Porter

------------

3. Detroit sends out:
Greg Monroe
Charlie Villanueva

Toronto sends back:
DeMar DeRozan
Steve Novak
future pick

------------

4. Detroit sends out:
Greg Monroe
Charlie Villanueva

Orlando sends back:
Arron Afflalo
Moe Harkless
