Not sure if we are trying to recreate the griz since they also played another big named gasol. Looks like we are playing more small ball. But I do agree that gay will greatly benefit playing with a big like DMC just as he did with Randolph. Like Randolph DMC demands double team in the post which helps shooters like gay get better looks.

I'd love to be called the Memphis Grizzles 2.0 if we can somehow get Gasol here for peanuts! :P

Drafting Randle would help. He reminds me of a more athletic Randolph

Didn't meant to forget about gasol but i was thinking of this trade in the sense that gay will greatly benefit playing with a big like DMC just as he did with Randolph.

Randle will be a terrible fit.
This team needs Marcus Smart, badly.

Nah, you guys don't need another combo-ish scoring guard. Don't get too attached to Gay, you'll be better off drafting a legit swingman like Wiggins, Parker, Exum, etc. Those guys all have legit size.

They gonna need that other big that is a star who also complements cousins before they can be compared to the griz.

They are an exciting team, but I do not think there's enough defensive talent for this team to truly contend

Offensivly, it is a defensive nightmare for the other team between having to slow down Thomas, keeping cousins out of the paint, and dwill and rudy are both threats to score.

Disagree, we don't need a star PF. We just need an athletic PF who can run the floor, rebound and block shots. Actually Drummond would be perfect, really :(

Agreed. If McLemore can continue to develop the Kings will have another go to scorer from the perimeter, alongside IT, and Gay/Williams who can also create their own shot. They wouldn't need another scorer from the PF spot...just a good role player.

Or an athletic C who can rebound and block shots. Let Cuz eat up Blake Griffin and any other PF who wants to guard him 8-)

A Robert Horry type would be a perfect fit, or a big time defensive center like Mutumbo.

Fair enough, I do agree there's enough weapons on this team that a defensive PF (athletic, not undersized, can get 10-15 points) is sufficient to help this team be a playoff squad.

But I was responding to OP. Grizlies have two starbigs...So grizzlies 2.0 would have two star bigs, no?

That said, drummond is not a PF...and I don't think cousins has the tools to slide to PF for a significan tamount of time. Same with drummond.

Depends on what your definition of a "star" big is. I personally think Marc Gasol is a very good player, but "star", relative to what? He's not a franchise player. He's at the Vlade Divac level or thereabouts. Maybe a little better in the post as a scorer. Just doesn't have that peak offensive skill that would allow him to dominate his matchup almost every game. That said, Gasol next to Cousins would probably make them close to the Grizz. I don't think there is any question anymore though that Cousins is beyond the talent level of both bigs on the Grizz.

I'm not sure about Memphis 2.0 since they both had a plamaking PG/C where as we have more score first with the ability to playmak PG/C combo

Onto the trade I don't mind it at all, Rudy can give us a wide range of versatility and seeing what coach Malone has been able to get out of someone like Travis Outlaw (watching him last year was a nightmare) and new comer Derrick Williams(love him) I don't see any reason why Rudy won't buy into the system of playing through Cousins. If he does not he will meet the pine quickly.

I don't think we should play Rudy @PF I rather give Rudy the back up mins @SG (replace Thornton/keep developing Ben Mac) along with a good chunk @SF which would allow Derrick to play more as a SF while backing up JT as a PF. Having Rudy and Williams on the wings makes us a massive, elite rebounding and better ball handling team (Mclemore/Thornton are bad ball handlers) team and makes us near impossible to post up from the wing position (which occurs religiously with Salmons/Thornton). We have to keep JT as the starting PF cause undersized one's just don't work with Cousins.

Rudy is perfectly built to compliment Cousins as is Williams if he chooses to, having to wings 6'8/6'9 allow for easy entry passes into the post (something we struggle with) and the athletic abilty both have means if they move without the ball Cousins will pass it out for easy scores.

Here is some interesting stats when Rudy is not trying to play hero ball
But when the Raptors found a hint of offensive creativity, Gay was once again a weapon. As a spot-up shooter, he's buried 50 percent of his three-point attempts. As an off-ball cutter, he's wracked up 1.28 points per possession and converted 64.7 percent of his chances.

If Rudy buys in our wing rotation of Mclemore/Gay/Williams is the most athletic/explosive in the L and all three of them could compliment Cousins due to the fact they will play well without the ball (Williams/Mac have already proven this). If all else fails we could even try Rudy as a 6th man (highly unlikely) with Isaiah starting we got no one who can create on the bench, surround Rudy with 3 spot up shooters in Jimmer/Thornton/Outlaw and whoever @ C and let him go to work if he can't fit with Cuz/IT

And that can't be understated. I think by the deadline they'll know if IT can be the PG for this unit.

This is why I thought Gay would be an interesting idea before this all went down, playing next to a big that can take pressure off of him might make a huge difference.
