It is certainly a great buy low opportunity on Ilyasova and the last year of his deal isn't guaranteed. That said he is in a simliar situation as Jeff Green in MIL and he has kind of thrown up all over himself. So sure his numbers look great if you take the first quarter of this year and just let it water down what he did last year. But right now all of his numbers standard, advanced whatever are terrible.
Bass on the other hand continues to play well in either a bench role or starter role, contender or rebuilding situation. You can ride him offensively when his jumper is falling and he can defend all 5 positions for you to an extent. It is strange that a guy with his jump shot doesn't shoot 3's, wonder if that may change under Stevens.
I also think that HOU may target Humphries over Bass. He isn't as versatile or effective defensively but is more productive especially on the glass and his jumper is falling this season. We may also be looking at a 3 team which would make more sense. Where HOU is targeting guys like Ryan Anderson, Ilyasova, but Thad Young and while at least MIL and PHI are listening they are not going to want Asik back in any deal they are going to want salary relief and a draft pick.
This is just my speculation because Boston itself may not want Asik either. But HOU may be trying to put together a 3 team deal that sends Hump and a draft pick to MIL or PHI, Asik to Boston, and returns Ilyasova or Young. This may be the reason for the immediacy of the deal that it isn't HOU that would want to turn around the player they are dealing for but MIL or PHI may want to be able to re-route Humphries at the deadline.
The poker game here is the draft pick, who gives it and what. Interestingly HOU has a boatload of 2nd round picks owed to them 4 extra 2nds over the next 4 years including the Knicks '14, '15 and only owe this years 2nd to PHI. In a 3 team deal where everyone is kind of getting what it wants and Boston is taking on the salary while HOU would be breaking about even and MIL would save 13 mil and PHI 16 mil Boston may get away with not having to give up the pick. Something like PHI gives HOU back its '14 2nd in exchange for HOU '14 1st.
