Do you think that's a normal occurrence?

It's not unheard of. Wasn't nearly bad as all the 9ers fans want to believe. We see weak calls like that when the QBs are concerned, almost every game. You pull someone down by the neck, they'll probably call it these days :dontknow:

This sums it up best to me

It’s a tough call. Brooks appears to wrap Brees around the shoulders at first (causing Brees’ neck to extend like a cartoon turtle), but he then reaches up towards the neck as he finishes the tackle. It could be called both ways, but with the way the NFL has committed to protecting the quarterback, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that it was flagged.

NO and SF bickering over 2nd place. Nobody is beating Seattle in Seattle. Let it be.

I feel like they're like us. It's not likely, but like Icness said in an article recently, when there are these long lasting trends, they eventually end. Neither of us will stay undefeated forever at home.

That said, I feel good against anyone in the Dome, and I'm sure Seattle fans feel the same, and they should.

Panthers were hot that game, it was their real first big test and honestly, if not for one broken tackle we win 9 to 6 anyways.

You have an excuse for every loss. It's kind of cute. ;)

Anyway, everyone got up in arms because I said the Saints are better. We have a better record, we're better statistically, and we won the head to head. We're better until they beat us, and they'll have to come in our house to do it most likely. :dontknow:

I'm pulling for anyone that might have to go into Seattle anyway. Would prefer us to not have to play in the cold in January :P

What are you even talking about? Niners lost by 1. They missed two tackles on the only play of the game that led to a Panthers TD. It's not an excuse, it's a fact. Just like how Brees, being a midget NFL player, was hit at the correct area and then dunked down, causing the hit to look worse than it really was.

Is it legal to tackle a QB at the neck?

Image

It's a weak call, but it is part of the rules. Just like if you grab low and you get caught up in a guys facemask because he ducked his head and it really isn't your fault. It's just how it's called now. It wasn't preferential treatment, it wasn't like they called something that doesn't exist. He pulled him down at the neck, and it's really not arguable.

Don't know how you can say that's the correct area, by the rules. I

You realize that was picture you just used was LATER after he originally hit him, right?

He clearly hits with his arm first BELOW the neck, then because Brooks is 6'3" and Brees is a modest 6'0" at best, Brees goes down with Brooks on top of him. Brooks hit him correctly and then the way Brees reacted to the hit made it look worse than it was. Simple as that.

He followed through high the entire way really. If he had lowered his body even a little, it wouldn't have happened. When you grab a quarterback and then drag him down by the neck, especially when you had such a clean shot, they'll call it.

Brees didn't see him coming, and Brooks wasn't stumbling or anything, he had plenty of opportunity to hit plenty of places that would make this nowhere near an issue. Brees didn't even duck or anything, he took the hit and as he started falling back, Brooks kept following through until his arm was in the neck, and dragging him down from there.

It really wasn't as bad as it looked in terms of intent, but it's really no one else's fault but his own, he could have easily avoided it. It's not like Brees being 6'2 or 6'3 would have changed the outcome really. He hit high at the shoulders, and he remained high all the way through. Regardless of who it was, he'd have been taking a risk of the guy dipping his head, or making some sort of motion that could get him flagged when you tackle a QB that high.

It's crappy that defensive players have to think about this many things when they go in for a tackle. Had Brees seen the sack coming, he'd likely have tucked his head some, and that would have been a clothesline to the helmet, and Brooks would have gotten a striking the helmet flag.

Far from hitting someone correctly. A correct hit would have been much lower(at the ball, near the waist), and would have resulted in NO chance of getting flagged. Instead, he kept himself high, and it hurt him :dontknow:

The Saints are much better bounty hunters, IMO.

Nah. The 49ers successfully knocked a lot more players out of games, and they didn't suck on defense.

I don't know if they had a bounty system like we did, but ours was an utter failure
