Giannis vs. Wiggins

Post#1 » by rockmanslim » Thu Dec 12, 2013 1:28 pm

I haven't sat down and watched a full Bucks game this season, but I have seen highlights of Giannis. I know that highlights don't tell the whole story though, so this question is for Bucks fans that have actually watched full Bucks games...

Is Giannis better than Wiggins?

I have watched 5 full Kansas games this year (Duke, Villanova, UTEP, Colorado, and Florida), and based on that and highlights of Giannis I've seen, Giannis seems to be better than Wiggins to me. Giannis appears to me to have a better feel for the game than Wiggins, seems like a better finisher around the rim, seems to play with more energy than Wiggins, and seems more skilled than Wiggins (ball handling, ball manipulation around the rim, etc). Also to me it just looks like Giannis moves better, like his body is more mature, better body control (even though they're about the same age).

If you haven't seen Wiggins play yet, here is game footage to give you an idea of his game:

I don't know about you guys, but Giannis looks more impressive to me. Granted he hasn't put up stats like Wiggins, but I'm talking eyeball test and potential here. Plus there's level of competition; Giannis does what he does against NBA players, Wiggins against college players (on the flip side, Giannis plays with NBA players while Wiggins plays with college players, so there's that). The problem, like I said, is that I know that I can't make a fair comparison because I've only managed to see Giannis highlights, not full Bucks games.

Since they are practically the same age (Giannis is only about 2 months older than Wiggins), and they're the same height, similar build, similar athleticism, and they're both raw skill-wise, I thought the comparison would be interesting.

Now if you could only have both....
The Bulls are the absolute worst.

It's still way too early to project how good Giannis can be. He really only started playing basketball about 4-5 years ago and he's grown almost 5 inches in the last 14 months. He has a great natural feel for the game, but he's still learning all of the intricacies that you can only grasp after years of play. Plus the added challenge of refining your skills during a huge growth spurt can't be easy either.

I watched the 2nd half of the UF-KU game, Wiggins was great.

The goal for the Bucks isn't either or, but how do you get both.

Giannis/Wiggins would be a turbo version of Johnson/Moncrief from the Bucks' golden age 30 years ago.

Wiggins, Parker, etc. - this whole thing is starting to depress me. That F'er Derrick Rose and his rubber band knees. I just know the Bulls are gonna F us and get in front of us in the draft.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
