We're missing some good games here.

Post#1 » by parson » Wed Dec 11, 2013 6:24 pm

While we argue Center/superstar, eyeball test/advanced statistics and general philosophy, some really well-played games have passed. After a period of malaise, the team has begun to show grit and intelligence. Yes, we have structural flaws that are probably fatal (so far as advancing in the playoffs is concerned), but we are playing good, sound basketball.

Are we tired of watching the games? Have we made so many personal attacks that we're afraid to discuss an actual game? Are we picking sides and choosing enemies, rather than pulling for the Hawks?

Last night was a great example: we struggled against a stifling Thunder defense, yet did a little stifling, ourselves, against them. It felt like playoff basketball. I looked a few times for a game thread but didn't bother (this time) to start one.

Considering that none of us knows squat about professional basketball, shouldn't we spend more time talking about the games and the players and less trying to prove we're smarter?

Maybe others just hang out on other sites. I'm not much of a chatter, but I'll throw in my 2 cents.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

Yeah, I have a personal rule that says that I don't post during games... and try not to immediately afterwards either. Just get too emotional when the heat is on - especially in a b-ball game that is so predicated on runs. Like to give myself a day or two of distance before calling someone a f'ing bum, etc.

Still, if you don't see a game thread and want to start one up feel free. I do appreciate your insights, especially on nights where I miss the game or come into it late.

Well my daughter is 2 now. Watching a game with a 1 year old vs a 2 year old is a different bag. My computer is the wreck it Ralph machine so posting and watching just ain't happening.

other times in at the game and I'm not posting during the game.

Got live chats over on Hawksquawk so why post pad over here? Occasionally jump into the GB game thread to get neutral fans perspectives though.

I know, guys. And y'all are right. It's just that I see the Bobcats with a 23 page game thread when they're only playing the Magic and I wonder how it'd feel.

I'd love for us to talk Hawks basketball more and fight over ... nothing ... less.

I understand. I feel the same way when I visit the Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks fan pages.

At this point I think we just need some new blood around here. We only have 7 or 8 frequent posters, and we all seem to be diametrically opposed to what the others have to say. Too often this leads to the same arguments over and over again and, subsequently, insults and dismissals.

I tried putting up a game thread or two, but ran into the same issues. Few posts, ended up just talking to myself. Last year Adnin had that awesome Player/Goat of the Game series of posts, but each one ended up getting about 4 votes and even fewer posts.

But, hell, it's no different than when I went to the games as a teenager. Empty seats EVERYWHERE.

You have a good point Parson. I think a few years ago there were more people posting, not a whole lot more, but at least we had game threads and all. I like to post and read what other think too... but it's definitely hard to post often when it seems like no one else cares. I love to check the Bucks or Raptors page, they are so passionate and into it that makes me wonder if in a city as big as ATL, we don't have a few that actually care about this team.
GO HAWKS.

RealGM isn't the home site for every fan base. Some teams like the Raptors, Knicks, Bucks etc. call RealGM home but others such as the Clippers, Hawks, Cavs have other separate sites with 30x the membership.
