no problem with a protected pick...thats more reasonable than 2 players and an unprotected. still would rather give up a pick for a true impact player but w/e...at least the season gets a bit more interesting right??

I feel like we can give a good solid package for a playmaker PG who isnt expiring, like Dragic

And at last report, Toronto was said to be seeking TWO of the following three: Shumpert, Hardaway Jr., Future First. A bit pricey, I'd say

Wait, what the hell happened to Felton being the main part of the deal? They want that for an expiring? Sheesh.

that is crazy talk

I don't think it's crazy at all. We have depth at the 2 and I'd rather hold onto 2018 in case the bottom drops on this team after this season. Shumpert hasn't progressed, is nearing the end of his rookie deal, is coming off an ACL injury, and I actually fear he will suffer another serious injury again in the near future.

if the bottom drops out and melo leaves in 2015 we will re-stock in FA anyways. We aren't tanking for 3 years straight to make the 2018 worth a damn from 2015-2016-2017

Of course not. That said, with the two guard depth we currently have on the roster, I would rather trade Shumpert knowing that he will require an extension after next season, had an acl injury, and is currently a malcontent than an asset down the road that will appreciate as time goes on and provides us much more flexibility in the future.

how could it happen without a pick though.

it's us who wants the player. they don't want raymond felton.

its either a pick 4.5 years from now, Shumpert, or THJr

there is no reason for Toronto to trade otherwise

you would rather give up on Shump and THJr for a mystery asset that is almost 5 years away? LOL

Good, high quality post that makes a ton of sense.

A first round pick is worthless if it is 5 years away. And hell, it wont be "LeBron James" so why is anyone worried? Draft picks are overrated anyway. I'd rather have mediocre PG's as short-term stop-gaps to try and save a lost season with a terrible coach so our best player doesn't leave this offseason.

so youd rather give up nothing and continue to watch atrocious guard play

or youd rather trade two players who have already shown potential instead of some unknown prospect 5 years from now

LOL

people always think just because you have picks youre going to get good players, majority of the time teams are bad, and remain to be bad

If Toronto wants to talk crazy, NY should step it up a notch, Amare, Felton, Hardaway, Beno, a 1st in 2018 and a 1st in 2020 for Amir, Derozan, Lowry and a 2014 2nd round pick :D

Correct. I think everyone here can at least agree that two of the following three is giving up way too much: THJR Shump 2018 first.

Now you are getting it. Once you start thinking like how the Knicks actually function instead of a fantasy land rebuilding model that will never happen you will be a lot happier with life.

LOL you want the team to tank with no draft picks?

the last time the Knicks had a top 10 pick they took Channing Frye.

What I don't get is all these people crying about picks...

The knicks don't ever get the draft right.. we continuely mess that up we are better at scouting

secondly

if we did have to blow it up doesn't melo get more money if we sign and trade? couldn't we just get picks back then?
