Boras: Rays should move to Montreal

Post#1 » by number15 » Thu Dec 12, 2013 6:25 am

just read this on Bleacherreport.com by my phone.

Scott Boras says the Tampa Bay Rays should relocate to Montreal.

my view: yes it makes so much sense. considering how good the Rays have been over the years and they barely sell tickets. maybe the people of Tampa just dont want a MLB team.

If Boras is saying it then it will happen in our lifetime. I would expect bell to be an owner

No more road games in Tampa would be sweet. Its so hard to win there for some reason

I'd feel better about losing games in Montreal than losing games in Tampa.

I don't think Montreal will be getting a team anytime soon. I'd rather see a team in Vancouver.

Warren Chromartie is heading up the Montreal Baseball Project, whose goal is to bring MLB back to Montreal.

Here is an article about the group's efforts. Their preference is to acquire an American League team.

I think Scotty has determined it'll be easier to move TB somewhere where Friedman can't keep his job - for lack of French - than it will be converting him, so MTL relocation is the best option.

Boras is finally seeing some light at the end of the Beane tunnel with the Johnson addition; I think it's safe to assume Boras is the reason Moneyball got greenlit as a feature solely to placate Beane's ego and the Brad Pitt effect is what got Beane to pay 10m for a closer.

So to further his goal of total Baseball domination he sees the path of least resistance going through MTL, 'cause it'll be harder to get Friedman a starring role in the next Miley Cyrus video.

I was surprised to see that the Rays are still playing in Tropicana field and a new stadium deal isn't likely in the near future. That means relocation is a possibility in the next few years...

but to Montreal? I am not sure about that. Bell could afford to buy the team, but where would the team play? They'll need to build a new stadium, too. That's the key dilemma here.

(And I just took a look at the MBP article and it's talking about a $500 million downtown stadium... easier said than done... It really depends on the people of Montreal. If they are are willing to spend this ridiculous amount of money on the stadium, than I am sure they can get a team.)

Bell could easily partner up with a brewery/major corporation other than media to help fund a small-ball (35K capacity) downtown stadium. Given they just got completely shut out of the major hockey deal signed by Rogers, they need to keep TSN relevant and desperately need content. Rogers already owns the Jays, TSN helped rejuvenate the CFL into a ratings winner for their station, they'll need to create more content. Going up against Roger's Blue Jays AND new hockey deal, Bell helping to bring back the Expos only makes sense for them to stay relevant in the sports market.

Yeah, makes sense on a lot of levels for Bell.

My parents winter in Tampa, and they say there is absolutely zero chance a stadium gets built with public money. The people there like low taxes first even if it means less service and infrastructure. Heck the summer population is remarkably smaller too. That's why the Lightening at least get by in the winter time... all the snowbirds.

With the low attendance, even with WS calibre teams, means no body is going to build a new stadium there privately either. You can't do a small cheap outdoor one, as you have to do a stadium like they did Houston or Phoenix due to the heat.

People bust on tropicana, but the Rogers centre is pathetic as well.
