GT: Cats @ Pacers Fri Dec 13 7PM EST

Post#1 » by fatlever » Fri Dec 13, 2013 2:46 am

friday the 13th!!! what could go wrong?

not sure how we can get away with playing gordon as many minutes tonight as we did vs magic. luckily biz will be back, because he will be needed.

what kind of performance should we expect from zeller playing in his home state? he'll surely have a large group of friends and fans at the game.

good luck charms brought to you by goth chicks in honor of friday the 13th.

Hendo has a better chance of guarding Paul George than JT.

Hell, Kemba probably has a better chance of guarding Paul George than JT.

At least we don't have to worry about Granger. He's apparently still not playing.

remember back in the drafts of 2005 and 2006, rumors that teams were scared of granger and roy due to chronic knee problems. well, it took 5 years, but it seems that the fears were valid.

but, its not like we did any better with may and ammo. at least we never got suckered into giving may and ammo massive deals before they fell apart.

seriously, it feels like granger has been hurt for 3 years, and his return has always been a few weeks away the entire time. it wouldnt surprise me if he plays less than 10 games this season and then signs a deal in the offseason and then spends all of next year hurt.

The thought of Jeff Taylor trying to defend Paul George throughout the course of a game leave me pessimistic. Let's just hope Clifford made his preset substitution patterns with that in mind

CDR is definitely going to find his way into this one. We should be getting blown out not too far into the game, opening up a chance for him to show his worth. He'll be a better asset in my mind than southerland if all the role model stuff they say is true. Wouldn't hurt to have someone side by side with MKG to keep him positive during tough times
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

Really hope Cliff gives Adrien the night off, because he can not guard Hibbert. Would be great to have Biz back, but that is not very likely.

CDR will probably be given a chance depending on what Cliff does with Ben Gordon.

I wonder how will Clifford preset CDR's minutes going into this game. Will he preset him 15, 20, or 25 minutes? My guess is 20

Taylor will play the first 7 minutes into the 1st quarter before CDR sub him out at the 5 minute mark...

...then CDR will play the first 5 minutes into the 2nd quarter before Henderson replaces him...

...then CDR will sit the bench until halftime before the same cycle happens again in the 2nd half

Clifford should give Adrien some minutes on West, but I doubt it. He's pretty fickle & prefer to stick with positions in his lineups instead matchups

I actually like Taylor guarding George. Not as good as I do MKG of course, but George is perimeter oriented, he isn't physical at all. Taylor can guard him with his athleticism. Its when Taylor guards SF's who are more physically dominate than him that he gets in trouble (in todays NBA thats way too often)

As me and I think fatlever has said all freaking season.. Taylor is a good defender, he just struggles against SF's. Let him play the two guard and he will do fantastic defensively, probably better than Henderson. He is just too Cody Zellerish guarding SF's, and thats the truth

When Taylor and Hendo are on the floor together, Henderson should be playing SF, Taylor playing 2 guard. Forget the fact that Hendo is 6'5 (undersized for a SF) and Taylor is 6'7 (oversized for a SG)- they are better at those positions IMO- Taylor especially.

Paul George is going to shoot over Jeff Taylor like he's a practice dummy. Taylor may work hard moving his feet to stay in front of the ball handler sometimes, but that's not even the half of playing good defense. In the NBA, most of these players exercise shooting over broom sticks & such, therefore obstacles aren't really detrimental to their scoring abilities. I say that to say that Taylor is just not a disruptive force defensively. He just doesn't get his hands on the ball much, steals or blocks

More Orlando Johnson, exactly what I wanted to hear. Honestly, I was actually hoping Danny Granger would play, because I was banking on him possibly shooting them out of the game trying to find his rhythm & conditioning, leaving the door open for a Bobcats upset

Game #23: Bobcats @ Pacers 3-on-3 Preview

1- STATS. Both squads are top-5 in defensive efficiency, so like the first meeting between these two, it should be a slugfest. On Nov. 27th the Bobcats turned the ball over 15 times that led to 14 points for Indiana + got out-rebounded 57-43. Oh, and C.J. Watson went 6-7 from behind the arc. What’s the key statistical category tonight?

Spencer: Indiana isn’t off-the-charts good in PnR situations offensively – when the ball handler in a PnR sequence takes the shot, the team is 37% + that ranks 22nd in the league — when the roll man ends up taking the shot, Indiana shoots 52.6%, good for 16th in the NBA (Per MySnergySports.com). This being said, it may not be a bad idea for Charlotte to extend their defense, get into the passing lanes and force offensive action to come to the basketball – hence, PnR’s.

Greg: The Bobcats will need to make this as ugly as possible, but there unfortunately aren’t many areas where they have a distinct edge. One thing they can key in on defensively is corner threes; the Pacers shoot the fifth-highest percentage on those attempts. The Pacers can also be a bit turnover-prone, ranking 21st in TOV%, so pressuring their ballhandlers will help.

Dakota: I think the aforementioned categories are going to be extremely crucial if Charlotte wants to even think about taking the victory. While a victory might be too much to ask for as the Bobcats will face off against the best team in the Eastern Conference, being competitive in the turnover and rebounding categories would be a huge step for the team.

2- KEMBA & HENDO. Quite possibly the most bi-polar back-court in all of basketball. Wednesday night against Orlando, the duo went a combined 7-32 from the floor. In the first meeting with Indiana this season they were a combined 6-32. They’ve got to be above average tonight for Charlotte to have a chance, right?

Spencer: As we saw in the Golden State win this week, when Kemba and Hendo get off the team can compete with anyone and get into a shootout. No, I don’t think that game is a model of success that can be consistent for Charlotte, but it does show us how this team maximizes it’s offensive potential within the context of a game. So, yes, I do believe they both need to have big games tonight in order for the Bobcats to have a chance.

Greg: It wouldn’t hurt, but of their three top scorers, Jefferson’s performance seems the most important in their wins and losses. Jefferson’s averaging 17.8 points in victories vs. 13.4 in their defeats, while Walker and Henderson’s margins are much smaller. A big scoring night from Al probably isn’t in the cards, though, as Indiana gives up the lowest FG% in the restricted area and the fifth-lowest in the paint.

Dakota: Of course. With DPOY candidate Roy Hibbert guarding Al Jefferson, the duo of Kemba and Henderson need to be more than above average if Charlotte wants to compete with Indiana.

3- PICK IT. Everyone got Indiana?

Spencer: Yup. It comes down to the fact that the Pacers are just too good in too many categories – they’re going to wear you down eventually. To me, this defense is winning them all these games early in the season and have them sporting the best record in the NBA. Depth + defense is a phenomenal formula for success in the regular season, and especially in the playoffs – this team has both.

Greg: Yes. The Pacers are steamrolling everyone at the moment, and Charlotte looked flat and bored against Orlando. I’m hoping for at least a close game, but expecting the worst.

Dakota: Absolutely. While Charlotte continues to improve as an overall team, Indiana is too much of a force for the Bobcats to even handle.
