does the salary cap go up to 80 million?

Hardaway will still be on his rookie contract.

Lowry, we can re-sign on a cheap, MLE-type deal.

Melo is obviously not going to be maxed out. He will take a paycut because he wants to build a contender in NY. He also has a big black book of contacts and will recruit a couple of all-stars to play with him.

I like this but I get the feeling it's just a touch hypothetical.

Raymond Felton's health and subpar play have the Knicks looking for upgrades at the point guard position, and their current target is Kyle Lowry.

The Knicks and Raptors are discussing a trade centered around Lowry, a league source confirmed. The Toronto Star reported that multiple teams have called the Raptors about Lowry, who is averaging 14.6 points and 6.7 assists this season. Reportedly, the Nets are among them.

Lowry is in the final year of a deal that pays him $6.2 million. Felton would be involved on the Knicks' end, but he is sidelined two to three weeks with a strained left hamstring.

The Raptors are said to want a first-round pick and short-term contracts for Lowry, who has career averages of 10.8 points and 5.1 assists for the Grizzlies, Rockets and Raptors.

The Knicks sent Toronto a 2016 first-round pick and two second-rounders as part of the package for Andrea Bargnani last summer. They don't have a first-round choice they can trade until 2018.

They might need a third team or might have to include Iman Shumpert or Tim Hardaway Jr. But the Knicks like Hardaway, and although they have been exploring trades for Shumpert, they have wanted to use him in a deal for more of an impact player. There also is some reluctance to part with a first-round pick.

"obviously not going to be maxed out" lol okay. if hes staying in ny, i doubt he doesnt demand the full max (or at least the vast majority of it). love will get maxed out. gasol will be, too (or really close). if you include melo with even ~20 million in the first/second year, that leaves us with no room for anyone else on the team besides vet min guys and rookies we draft.

melo - 20 mill (again, doubt this happens)
love - 20 mill
gasol - 15

thats 55 million for 3 guys. add in an mle type deal for lowry (~5 million), that brings us to 60. cap this year is ~59. lets say next year it goes up to 63 and then 67 the following year. 60 million for 4 players + hardaway at a bit over 1 million -- bringing us to 61 (ill round down) -- leaves us 6 million for the rest of the team. this isnt happening...

your lineup is a pipedream.

edit -- jr smith has a player option that year...LOL. your scenario has a snowballs chance in hell of happening.

Well, the main reason is our coach is a goof and refuses to play him, doesn't matter how well he's playing.

Don't think Lopez has any plays like this, however Val has a bit more. Thought I'm not saying he's a superstar in the league, definitely a fringe all-star but who really knows at this point because he gets little to no minutes to produce.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/13/sports/basketball/felton-out-2-to-3-weeks-as-problems-mount-for-knicks.html

One target, according to multiple reports, was the Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry, 27, a point guard who is averaging 14.6 points, 6.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game, each mark a career best. A deal for him would most likely include Felton, among other pieces provided by the Knicks.

Last week, the Raptors boldly signaled that they were in full rebuilding mode by trading Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings as part of a seven-player deal. The Raptors received point guard Greivis Vasquez from the Kings, which made Lowry expendable. Toronto would most likely want future assets as part of any deal for Lowry.

The problem for the Knicks — one of them, anyway — is their lack of future assets. In fact, the Raptors already own a bunch of them. The Knicks gave up three draft picks (a first-round selection in the 2016 draft and second-round selections in 2014 and 2017) when they acquired Andrea Bargnani from the Raptors over the summer.

Because of that move, and others of questionable merit, the Knicks cannot trade a first-round pick for any draft before 2018’s. That could hamstring their ability to swing any sort of deal. Trade partners tend to want picks, and that is especially true this season, with next summer’s draft shaping up as one of the deepest in recent memory.

I watched Lowry in Toronto and he's basically the same player as Felton, but just happens to be playing well right now,I wouldn't give up so much for him...definitely not a first.

Screw this -- he ain't that good. We've given up enough picks. Go for Andre Miller.

I've moved on entirely from Kyle.

JR for that cokehead mayor of Toronto. That's an even swap in every way.

Good job Dolan. Bye Toronto. Who cares if he goes to the Nets lol. They're 8-14 and we are 6-15. Race to the bottom.

very happy.
When I first heard they wanted to trade Lowry I was happy, I mean how much would they want for an expiring player that they didn't want anyway?
Now that I know the answer, I'm happy they nixed this deal.
a young talent on a rookie contract, a backup point gaurd on an excellent deal, and a 1st round pick is way too much for 2/3 of a season of kyle lowry.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske ... z2nKlw4rRq

" According to a source familiar with the talks, Dolan had second thoughts about trading for Lowry and was also — what else? — enraged that details of the proposed deal had been leaked to the media.

According to several reports, the Knicks were prepared to trade Raymond Felton and Metta World Peace plus Iman Shumpert or Tim Hardaway Jr. or a 2018 first-round pick. The Raptors preferred the first-round pick, but Dolan — who negotiated the Carmelo Anthony trade with Raptors GM Masai Ujiri when Ujiri was with the Denver Nuggets — got cold feet about trading a future asset"
