Continuing the Wizards unique record as, I believe, the only team ever to trade for a player chosen #1 before his second season began. Sure, why not, I like Thompson. Flip Bennett for a PG? Maybe some team thinks it's too early to write him off.

If it's true that the Grizz and Pelicans are discussing a Zbo for Anderson (and change) swap, then Ernie needs to be on the phone with both teams seeing what the Wizards can offer that would exceed other offers on the table.

I picture EG with a phone that has a hand crank and a two-piece headset

What about this deal:

Wiz trade Nene+Porter+Maynor for Jeremy Lin+Chandler Parsons+Amir Johnson
Rockets trade Asik+Lin+Parsons for Nene+Lowry+Terrence Ross+2016 Nuggets/Knicks pick (whichever is lower)
Raps trade Lowry+Amir Johnson+2016 Knicks/Nuggets pick (whichever is lower) for Asik+Porter+Maynor

NEW Wiz lineup:
PG: Wall/Lin
SG: Beal/Webster/Rice
SF: Ariza/Parsons/Rice
PF: Amir/Ariza/Parsons/Booker
C: Gortat/Amir/Seraphin

Raps:
PG: Vasquez/Maynor
SG: Derozen/Fields
SF: Porter/Novak
PF: JV/Patterson
C: Asik/Hayes

Houston:
PG: Lowry/Beverly
SG: Harden/Ross
SF: Cassppi/Brewer/Garcia
PF: Jones/Nene
C: Howard/Nene

WHY FOR THE WIZ?
1) They become much more versataile. Ariza and Parsons can interchange at PF to go small, while Amir Johnson can play PF to go big. Line is a big upgrade at PG and he can play SG next to Wall if need be.

WHY FOR THE RAPS?
1) Asik is a perfect fit as a defensive C next to Val, while Porter becomes their SF of the future.

WHY FOR THE ROCKETS?
1) Giving up Parsons is tough, but they get that future 2016 Knicks/Nuggets pick (whichever is lower), and get Nene as a great fit as a big who can play with both Dwight & Jones. Lowry comes back to Houston and can play off of Harden. Terrence Ross is a good fit as a cheap athletic SG who can hit 3s.

Val and Asik can't play together.

I wonder if we can jump in on the Millsap for Asik rumors reported in the ticker. First try at this so I'm not sure if I accounted for all the contracts properly.

Wizards out: Ariza
Wizards in: Lou Williams, Donatas Monteijunas

Why? Bench scoring + stretch 4 with potential. Would need to release someone (Al Harrington?). Ariza's been great all year, but this balances out our team better and finally means we can give Wall and Beal some minutes off.

Rockets out: Montiejunas, Asik
Rockets in: Millsap, Hawks protected 1st

Why? Trades an unhappy, somewhat redundant, piece with value for a productive player on a good contract. Reports are they want a little more than just Millsap. Acquiring Millsap leaves few minutes for Montiejunas so they shouldn't have much problem giving him up to get a pick out of the deal.

Hawks out: Millsap, Williams, protected 1st.
Hawks in: Asik, Ariza

Why? Massively upgrades their D and shifts Horford to his natural position at PF. Two quality defensive players in Asik and Ariza. Fills their needs for defensive center and a SF. Mack is playing well, so they might be ok giving up Williams to get Ariza and giving up the protected first to give the Rockets a little more incentive to get the deal done.

Lou Williams is posting a PER of 13 and a TS% of 47% despite only playing 20 minutes a game, usually against backups. Monteijunas is posting a PER of 10 and has only played 78 minutes all season. This is a huge downgrade. We can do much better with Ariza as a trade chip. And if we can't, we should just keep him. There's no reason to expect Porter to be much of a factor this year so it's not like we can't find minutes for Ariza. And even if Porter comes on strong, I'd rather play Ariza at PF than Monteijunas.

The Wizards are just siphoning value here. If Toronto is going to trade their future pick, they're going to keep Parsons for themselves.

Yes, and I can't think of any other team that has ever done it. If they somehow pick up Bennett, that record would really start to look odd.

Ah, forgot that Williams is returning from an ACL, which is both an explanation for his numbers as well as a reason not to trade for him. Too bad. The guy I remember from Philly could cure some of our second unit ills. And his TS% last year was better at 55%

I generally agree with what you're saying though. Ariza's play this year and his expiring can be just as valuable to the Wizards as it would be to other teams.

That Cavs/Rockets 3-way is basically Asik for Verajao, and then another separate trade of Bennett/Thompson for Ariza. When you break it down like that, I don't see it happening.

Hmmm...but might Toronto be willing to take a chance on Bennett?

Wizards trade: Ariza
Wizards receive: Lowry and G.Smith

Raptors trade: Lowry and Novak
Raptors receive: Bennett

Cavs trade: Bennett and Verajao
Cavs receive: Asik and Ariza

Rockets trade: Asik and G.Smith
Rockets receive: Verajao and Novak

TRADE ID 6369178

Still seems a bit uneven, but everyone but WAS can use the 150% rule so there's room to tweak it.

Some Porter trade ideas:

Porter+Maynor+Ves+Seraphin for Amir Johnson+Lowry
Porter+Ves for Illyasova
Porter for Frye+our pick back
Porter+Ves+Seraphin for Thad Young+Wroten

I'd do ANY of these trades.
