OT | TV, Movies, Books
Apologies if this should go in the OT thread, but I think it could also hang on its own.
I recently got into House of Cards and am into the second season now. I really enjoy the show.
This brings my favorite shows list to:
Suits
House of Cards
Eastbound and Down
What do you got as favorites?

Caught Out of the Furnace and enjoyed it. It's pretty dark and certainly not an action movie, but I was never bored and it's easy to get invested in all the characters. I'd recommend it.

Re: OT | TV, Movies, Books
I am re-watching the first season of Banshee.
Yes, it is full of gratuitous sex, violence & nudity; but there is a very interesting story going on here beyond all that.
Don't get me wrong - the gratuitous sex, violence & nudity is awesome. They should not do away with that. Fortunately, since it is Cinemax we don't have to worry about it.
I just started reading David McCollough's 1776, which is a companion piece to his incredible biography of John Adams.

And no doubt I will watch "The Flash" once the spinoff series for that starts.

Re: OT | TV, Movies, Books
Finished up season 1 of House of Cards... what a great show.
Also fascinating to see the use of Big Data with the show's creation and looks like we get season 2 in February.

I think I'll have to check this out in 3D
LOTR books: hundreds of pages of fantastic descriptions of personalities, histories, interactions and landscapes
LOTR movies: 15 hours of watching people walk through detailed CGI
If they don't introduce some semblance of real characters into the movies at some point, Koyaanisqatsi may have some good copyright violation claims.

Re: OT | TV, Movies, Books
Well, to be fair, the movies don't try to be better than the books. I'm just in it for the experience of the modern day technology. The 3D stuff is great.
I saw Gravity in 3D and enjoyed the ride, despite the lack of story.

The film I'm most looking forward to is The Wolf of Wall Street

I thought Margin Call was okay, but will agree on the Enron doc. That's a great one. Boiler Room is a classic and I still need to see American Psycho.
Not Wall Street, but American Hustle looks great and is getting plent of acclaim.

Have you watched House of Cards? I'm rewatching Season 1 and it's actually that much better seeing the plot unfold.
Obviously I'm looking forward to Season 2.
p.s. The product placement in the show makes the big data angle that much more interesting to me.

Neither do I, but HOC is more like watching a 12 hour movie and each episode is 50 minutes. If you get a chance, give the first couple episodes a go and you'll either be hooked or not.

I've had to tell people in the office to stop talking about Sons of Anarchy since I haven't watched the finale yet
