What was I supposed to ask him? His favorite color? Whether or not he's ticklish? I tried to shoot the sh*t about basketball with an NBA player. What would your approach have been?

I might've asked him about his wacky hairstyle choices and if he ever considered shaving his head bald. Or I might've asked him if the guys in the locker room make fun of Evan Turner's kermit voice behind his back. Or maybe I would not have asked him anything and just said hi, took a pic to prove it, and moved on.

I already have proof that the story isn't real. Observe: he said that "I saw the 3 dots going at the bottom of the screen, indicating that Spence was replying and then it just went blank." .. anyone with basic knowledge knows that txt messaging does NOT have the feature of telling you when the other person is replying/writing. Nor will it show if they 'saw' the message. Even if you have google hangouts, which now supports SMS, it won't show you the three dots... unless the person is in your google chat list.. same with any other program. Text messaging is not BBM.

alright so we just got the variables down, the odds go down huge since both of these people would have to have an iPhone. And Spencer would have to be typing at the perfect time, the same time this guy picked up and looked at the phone and txts..

It's an iMessage feature that's exclusive to iPhones.

I'm not saying the stories true or not. But considering at least half the world has an iphone, I don't see how its that unlikely. Moreover, if you're texting someone and expecting replies, you often do see the dots. Also who cares if the story is true?

iPhones are the most popular phone in the US, and if you had one, you would know exactly what the dude was talking about.

I'm saying that there is a much less of a percent of chance now that we know both had to have been using an iPhone (and iMessenger?)

iMessage is the default mode for iphone-to-iphone, because iMessage is free. One of the two iphones needs to be out of service, or you have to make it send as SMS, for iMessage to not be happening.

Again, it's the most popular phone in the country. It is ubiquitous--everywhere--hell, them both having iphones is probably the most likely scenario out of all.

Where did I say I don't believe it, I said the chance of it being real (and I know you want it to be) goes down as both had to have iPhones. It doesn't go down by a whole lot, but it does. Not to mention this guy has like 4 or 5 crazy stories like this here on realGM and is an exemplified reason celebs don't like talking to people if all those stories are true.

If the chances of something are very good, and they don't go down by much, then the chances are still good.

I don't have a clue whether the dude is lying, for all I know he probably is. But he's not lying about the response dots in iMessage: this is common knowledge.

This story is hard to read. Why in the world would you bother a stranger during his dinner?
