Dwight Howard's role on this Team!
One game i know, and I missed his previous 20/20 game. But it just seemed to me that this was the 1st time the team really looked to him(end of 1st and 4th) and there were easily 8-10 times where the team failed to get Dwight the ball after he was in prime position.
Dwight is clear head & shoulders, no pun intended, above everyone else on this team. This is the Dwight we were expecting, and I was a lil disappointed it seems ppl didn't notice it. The TNT guys were more concerned with their, which was pretty funny. The general board seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for things to criticized Dwight about and here people are either concerned with Lin>Rockets, or being polite about it.
F*ck that!
F*ck whoever is supposed to be the damn pg!

F*ck Omer Asik!!!

The guy sucks in the post and unless he is willing to run pick and rolling his role should be the garbage man

Re: Dwight Howard's role on this Team!
I started out criticizing DH. It's hard to like a guy that gets his coach fired, but acts like they're buddy/buddy (probably one of the biggest "oops" moments in recent NBA history when he came up behind SVG and gave him a hug). Then he spends one season with the Lakers and then bails.
Then the season started and he was AWFUL. Just awful. Cringe worthy post moves and TOs left and right. His defense and rebounding were always stellar, though.
But, I'm starting to warm up to him a bit. He goes out and does his job on the defensive end and he doesn't really ask for the ball much.
I actually think he has a confidence problem...and that he actually doesn't want the ball in the 4th quarter of a close game sometimes. I mean, if the rest of your team isn't giving you the ball...SAY something. But, he hasn't said a word about lack of touches.
As for his role...I know McHale wants him to be the focal point of the offense. But, I don't think he's a good offensive player...or at least someone you run an offense around. That guy is Haren, as much as I hate his lack of D, he is the one who is head and shoulders the best guy on the team.
I would much rather Haren be the guy you run the offense around...and DH be the guy that gets the boards, protects the paint, cleans up the glass on the offensive end, and who you can count on for about 4 or 5 buckets from the post a game.
Last night's game kind of showed that, even though it's just one game. Howard was the guy on offense, but the offense struggled, overall. Houston had 44 points in the first half. Luckily, Portland wasn't much better. The Rockets scored the most points in the 3rd quarter when they stopped going to Howard. He had 10 or 12 points in the 4th, but most of them came in the last 2 minutes when the game was already pretty much over.

Patience with the big man is starting to pay off more and more, which is great to see.
Continue to feed the big man and enjoy him getting comfortable in Houston.

20 / 20 in a loss? The only reason we went to him this game was because he was manhandling Robin Lopez. This is not the case for many other centers and teams.
At the same time, Lopez went 7-9 for 16pts and 10 boards. Aldridge went 11-22 for 31pts and 25 boards.
Also, the Blazers chose not to hack a Dwight.. which is another one of his issues. There's no way he can close games when it is close cause he'll stink it up at the FT line.
Don't get me wrong, he had a stellar game but at the same time, his body language and attitude is still piss poor:

And like you said, this only one game... but if he continues with this production and we win games, then I'll happily eat these words.

Re: Dwight Howard's role on this Team!
No Dwight got 20/20 in a win couple games ago... Are people really blaming Dwight for that loss?
U have everyone else besides Harden playing like ****.
Bev was amazing on defense but he literally air balled 4-5 shots. Parsons missing wide open shots hell he missed a **** dunk! Tjones taking ill advised shots, and Lin got no pt.
Rox keep playing with Dwight like that and this team is scary. No one wins anything off of perimeter play. No way Houston shoots that bad again.
They few times Dwight was on LMA he locked him up. Idk y Sampson left Tjones alone on LMA island.
Feed the best player on the team. It's like Yao all over again... Yao beasting gets great positioning and **** Rafer can't get him the ball. Smh

I don't think that Dwight is the problem at all.
I think that three of our key guys - Harden, Lin & Parsons - are all playing at less than 100% due to injuries.

Dwight was fantastic honestly. Don't expect Dwight to do that well going forward though. They weren't doubling nor was Lopez really offering any resistance (by trying to take a charge, or hell, even just hacking Howard when he got really deep position).
I don't really know how you can expect more out of him. I thought the team overall played very well for I would say about 90% of the game, there were just 2-3 small stretches where the team got down big due to turnovers and boneheaded plays.

Guys I think Dwight Howard is back! The confidence is really showing how much of an affect it had.

He's a beast no doubt but his P&R defense is ass. Never seen a such a talented defender be so lazy on P&R in my life.

Re: Dwight Howard's role on this Team!
I suspect that when the team beat the Mavs and Spurs with teamball, D and Dwight when he was out, Harden has matured a little bit, and that's significant. Last year and the beginning of this season he was trying to prove that he can be a star in this league but now hopefully he has realized that:
Add to that, I think Dwight has improved in recent games. Everyone is becoming healthy and has gained more experience. I think this team can do some damage if there's no trade and Asik buying in.
So, whatever it takes to win, that’s the kind of team player that I am. You know, my job is to make my teammates happy, and Dwight happy.

I think Barkley said it best, "Dwight's a very good player, just not a great player".
