Re: Omer Asik Trade
Two limitations on Asik's value:
1. Short contract.
2. Non-cap cash balloon payment next season, if I understand correctly how his contract works.
Anyhow -- does Houston really need a 3-pt shooting PF, or would a mid-range shooter like Bass also serve?

Maybe Bogans is involved in a 3 way deal though, or Faverani goes to Houston along with Bass?? Who knows...
I don't see that making any sense for the Hawks
Horford can finally play the 4.
OK but it does not make the Hawks better. Milsap is having an all star caliber year and is a solid player on both sides of the floor. I don't see any reason why they would trade for Asik. Horford is just fine, in fact really good a Center. He is rarely over matched...and Asik is not an improvement.

That is crazy from the standpoint of giving up KO and a 1st and not getting any salary relief while taking on almost 20 mil in salary.
I am pretty sure Boston is offering Hump and a 1st and I think that is trump right now and that is why HOU is putting up this deadline because they are going to take it if nobody offers anything better. Hump fills a need without any kind of commitment and everyone loves a 1st round draft pick.
Have insider info? Not sure what need Hump fills besides cap relief... He doesn't fit with Howard.
I am way more idiot savant than insider.
Hump plays PF and is productive. He can come off the bench or start and can knock down a jumper. More importantly he is an expiring contract. Add a 1st round pick and winner winner you know the rest. Assuming that HOU might want to make a play for a Ilyasova or Young their teams don't want Asik they want to trade their guy for an expiring contract and a draft pick.
I am not sure Ainge is willing to include a first round draft pick but assuming he is then I think this is probably the best deal because they can make it a 3 way deal there is talk about DET wanting out of Josh Smith already (shocker) and HOU may want in but DET doesn't want Asik but Hump and a 1st that is worth doing business.
I think this is pretty good rational for an Idiot savant

I think the Rockets took a step backwards by signing Dwight.....
I watched last night's loss to Portland....and thought to myself that last years Rocket's would have won that game.....
I would love to see the Celtic's get Asik....
He's just the sort of center that would run the floor and benefit from having Rondo running the show....
We should get him...even if we part with a first round draft choice....

I agree, to me Hump and lesser 2015 pick would be fair or even Bass, Lee and lesser 2015 pick. I would like to hang onto both 2014 picks if possible to keep the opportunity to trade up alive.

Millsap is better statistically and Houston may have to add another player or two, but Atlanta is 27th in rebounding, and Horford prefers playing pf.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
I'd consider Bass & Faverani for Asik.
The Rockets get a back-up banger and a solid 4 who can defend big 3s like Durant and LBJ as well as anyone.
The Cs get a real starting 5. Puts Sully at the 4 where he belongs.
I might toss in a no. 2 pick.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
Milsap, Bass and Sully are all pretty much the same sort of post player....Though Milsap thrived in Utah before Big Al showed up....then both he and Al shared the same space....
But Milsap is basicly the same sort of player....
I'm thinking that we will want to keep Sully and offer Bass / and a future first.....I'm sure that Houston would want Sully though? .....or perhaps one of this year's picks?
And that just might be the hangup?
On the plus side, Bass and Howard played together before on the Majic though....so who knows?
Maybe Bass and one of this year's picks gets it done?

Re: Omer Asik Trade
If Millsap is seriously on the table for them, I don't think we're getting Asik. I wouldn't feel comfortable making any trade that would match or exceed Millsap's value. I doubt he actually is unless Houston's giving up more though.
I'd like to see Asik as a Celtic, but not for more than Bass+Lee or filler+a pick.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
Millsap for Asik is a good move for both teams. I see that happening. Puts a defensive anchor next to horford and allows him to play his natural PF position. As well it puts a guy that really compliments Dwight on the floor for the rockets. Good move if it happens.
And Tenbomber, i agree Millsap is the same sort of player as Bass and Sully...but Millsap is the bigger name...not sure how much of a factor it is but ive seen dumb traqdes happen for name sakes before.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
I'd do most of the proposed trades to get Asik. Anything in the Bass\Lee\pick, Hump\pick ballpark works. I'd prefer the Hump one, but would do the Bass-based one. A Rondo/Bradley/Green/Sully/Asik lineup with Craw/Bass/Lee/KO/Wallace is a 4 or 5 seed depending on when Rondo gets back & up to full speed.

The Wiretap claims the Rockets prefer Millsap. Millsap's a little better than Bass statistically, and Millsap can shoot the 3ball, which Houston seems to really value...

Cleveland, Milwaukee and New Orleans are all out on Asik. Atlanta, Philly or Boston?
Jason Lloyd @JasonLloydABJ
#Cavs not interested in Omer Asik, per league source. Houston will trade him, but it won't be straight up to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao
Sam Amick @sam_amick
On Asik front, Milwaukee appears to be out of mix; Pelicans have zero interest in rumored Ryan Anderson deals

They might prefer him, but does not mean Atlanta will return the call.
I really think Houston would have to add in a 1st round pick or Terrance Jones.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
Trading Milsap will be a disastrous move for ATL off the court. Nobody ever wants to go there as a FA and then a guy finally takes their money and it is working out great and the first day they can trade him they do. Beyond that league wide teams will be furious that the basically just HOU off the hook.
I am not sure he is a great fit with Howard anyhow. Dwight sucks on offense but he wants a big role so the Rockets are going to need someone who can stay out of his way.
That said they clearly are waiting on a deal that involves a guy signed this off season. Here is hoping it is Bogans.

Atlanta's the 3rd best Defensive Rebounding team in the league. 2nd to last in Offensive Rebounding. I think you've gotta look at those 2 things separately.
Thinking that it is a philosophy thing for them.

Interesting. There is a dwindling number of suitors available, especially if Houston's direct playoff competitors are taken off the list. Philly could do something with Hawes, Turner and/or Young, but aside from Atlanta and Boston there aren't really good fits otherwise. Teams are either not competing or don't have any assets like the NY teams.
Houston may have to take less than it would like due to the low number of potential suitors involved.

Doubt Millsap minds going to a title contender.
If Boston's involved, I think Bogans is likely to go considering they're waiting til tomorrow..

Re: Omer Asik Trade
While strong rumbles persist that the Sixers are the team most likely to go along with such an arrangement, given the close ties between Rockets general manager Daryl Morey and Philly counterpart Sam Hinkie, there's fresh talk in circulation about another potential co-conspirator.
The Boston Celtics.
The advice offered us Sunday was stern: Keep an eye on Boston. The Celtics possess two players in different salary ranges that would presumably fit in useful ways next to Dwight Howard: Jeff Green and Brandon Bass. The Celts also have a spare first-round draft pick or two to plug into any trade equation to sweeten the deal for Houston, amid rising suspicions around the league that Morey’s Rockets are going to find a way to come out of the Asik saga with at least one future first.
The same Rockets who happen to have a GM (Morey) and coach (Kevin McHale) who have longstanding relationships with Celts president Danny Ainge.
So, yes, I’d say you should keep an eye on Boston.

Re: Omer Asik Trade
edit: Avalanche beat me to it.
Green and a 1 sounds too steep.
Salaries a bit confusing. Green for Asik straight up is a fit. Bass complicates it, since Bass + Brooks would mean we take in more salary than we're giving out. No no for us on the repeater tax front.
