Lyons Struggling With Life After Being Fired By Fox

Personally I liked Lyons. Him and Brennaman made a good team. Much better than Joe Buck and Tim McBoring

Miami Herald - Steve Lyons says it ''has been a struggle to move on financially and emotionally'' since his dismissal from Fox during last year's American League Championship Series. After a reference was made to co-analyst Lou Piniella's Hispanic heritage, Piniella spoke in Spanish briefly, and Lyons said, ''I don't understand him and I don't want to sit too close to him.'' Later, Lyons joked that his wallet had been stolen.

Though Lyons insisted the comment had nothing to do with Piniella's heritage, Fox immediately dumped him. Three years earlier, Lyons said then-Dodgers outfielder Shawn Green sat out a game on the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur ``for the heritage, and not the religion.''

I'm also pissed that Harold Reynolds was kicked out of ESPN because of sexual harassment.

That is sad for Steve. I enjoyed listening to him.

Those are some fairly dumb things to say, particularly so on the air.

I agree about the Jewish comment but the Spanish comment wasn't so bad. Lou said it didn't offend him at all.

Neither comments would offend me, or ones worse than that even; but you have to realize that there are lots of people who are easily offended. Whenever you make even slightly off-color comments about other religions/ethnicities, particularly when you introduce stereotypes, its a recipe for disaster.

I certainly wouldn't have been one of those people calling for his head, but I can certainly see that he dug his own grave.
