Evan Turner
Philly is shopping him, not interested in resigning him, and looking for a cheap young player on a rookie contract. So that kind of rules out Monroe or any of our veterans. They are interested Dion Waiters though according to the report, mainly because of his rookie deal. They just want to start over and get some cheap young prospects. We also have a young SG of the same caliber, high lottery pick ,on a rookie deal etc in KCP to offer. So would you do it if they were interested?
I like Pope's defense, but adding Turner while being able to keep Monroe would be a great fit. It would allow us to bring either Monroe or Smith off the bench in a 3 big man rotation and have a true starting SF, like David Mayo alluded to the other day that he believes is Joe's eventual goal with this roster (http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/ ... _greg.html) . Turner is a pretty good defender too, so we wouldn't really lose much perimeter defense giving up KCP.
Jennings/Billups
Stuckey/Singler
Turner/Singler
Smith/Monroe
Drummond/Monroe/Harrellson

Re: Evan Turner
No way Monroe is coming off the bench though. It's his contract year.
I'd do Turner + Young for Monroe + filler.
Turner has played really well this season, and Young would be great off the bench or as our starting SF.
For Philly, they'll have Monroe/Noel front court. Win win for both.

Re: Evan Turner
For what its worth it would have to be KCP+Jerebko to match salary, but I don't think adding in Jerebko would be a deal-breaker for either team. He's on a cheap/short contract and still a decent young player, which fits in with what they are looking for.

this would be the worst 3pt shooting team in nba history

If they are willing to trade him for Waiters though, why would we give up Monroe for him if a young SG prospect like KCP is all that's required?
Plus if they don't want to resign Turner, they would have the same problem with Monroe, who also is due for an extension this summer. Unless they valued Monroe higher and would be willing to give him the contract more than Turner. Regardless, I don't think we would need to give up that much to get him. Might as well save Monroe for a different deal if possible.
David Mayo seems to think that Joe is planning to keep all 3 Dre/Monroe/Smith, and move one of them to the bench as soon as he finds a starting SF. Whether that would be Monroe or Smith, who knows.

And they wouldn't be adding any more. They would be trading one poor shooter in KCP for another in Turner, who is much more productive in other areas and brings more of an experienced/veteran presence, which we could use being the youngest team in the league.
Its not about adding shooting, just about upgrading the talent level. Any time you can trade an unproven rookie SG (who can't shoot) for a young, but established vet just entering his prime and having an all-star caliber year - at a position of need - that's hard to pass. Unless you really believe KCP is going to eventually be better, which who knows at this point.

Re: Evan Turner
Oh man...Monroe doesn't belong in this discussion. Turner's value is at an all time high, but it says a lot about him that Philly didn't show any interest in extending him. He's an awful 3pt shooter, and has to have the ball in his hands to be effective. We need an SF that can hit open threes at a good percentage and play good defense. Not another ball handler.

Re: Evan Turner
We can't deal KCP.
Sure, his shot is looking bad for now, but his defense is outstanding and he's cheap.
Somebody has to be cheap, people. Currently, KCP. Monroe, and Andre are the cheap ones, but Monroe's about to get expensive.
If you want to be good, you need eight+ good players. To have eight+ good players, some of them need to be on cheap deals, which typically means guys on rookie contracts.
That and Turner doesn't fit anyway.

He will be a nice role player on a good team. But, don't let those 20 PPG fool you into thinking he's a star.

To Oklahoma for a Lamb+ package would be my guess for Turner.

Turner's a nice player, but he doesn't solve any of this teams' problems and probably couldn't be had THAT cheaply.

Agreed. He's a poor fit and wouldn't be worth what we'd have to give up to get him.Snakebites wrote:Turner's a nice player, but he doesn't solve any of this teams' problems and probably couldn't be had THAT cheaply.

Re: Evan Turner
We'll have to agree to disagree. I would trade KCP for him in a second and think he would fit great here at either perimeter spots.

Re: Evan Turner
No thanks. KCP will find his shot and his defense has been heralded as excellent thus far and he's only getting better with less silly fouls and getting better in efficiency on the offensive end. He's our version of Butler/Kawhi that plays with heart and hustle and is extremely quiet.
The fact that Turner isn't being considered at all for a possible extension tells a lot. He'll demand a lot as well.

Re: Evan Turner
I like Turner but no. I think his stats are inflated, he's not a good fit in Detroit and we can't keep him as he'll have market. I don't think they'll settle for KCP either. It would take Monroe.
