A trade for Omer Asik is NOT worth any of our asset players, especially ones like Green, Bass, Bradley, Olynyk, or Crawford.

He is not worthy of a rebuilding team using assets to become a dynastic contender.

His only worth is on a ready-made contender that's one piece away from a title. This 2013 team isn't that.

I'd rather package Jeff Green or Brandon Bass for:

A. 1st round picks to fringe lottery teams

B. A young player that is raw, hasn't shown much with their current team, but has upside (McLemore)

It's naive to think Omer Asik for these players would help us beat any contender in the next 3 years.

Lots of moving parts and variables but one constant that's been repeated and with which I agree: we're a shot-creating SG/SF and a rim protector away from contention. If we can get that rim protector without giving away a part of the core (Rondo/Bradley/Green/Sully/Olynyk), then hell yes sign me up.

Trading Green for Asik is where I draw the line. It strikes me as a lateral move unless it's part of a bigger deal. Chandler/Asik/Smith/Lin for Green/Hump/Crawford, maybe I'd think about that....

Hearing HOU really likes Jeff Green in an Asik trade, but unlikely. Asik could be moved by Thurs. Also Waiters to CHI or PHI? Lotta chatter.

No way Ainge gives Green fo Asik imo.

Pogue, I've loosely been following the forum today at work; what's your tl;dr stance on Asik (i.e., want him? if so, for what?)

Asik is worth trading for Bass, not Green.

Asik will improve our defense tremendously. A huge upgrade over Faverani and it allows us to start Sully at the 4 with Bass gone and Asik at the 5.

Asik's free throws are a little worse than most big men, but not a deal breaker. A small sample size so far, but his FT% this year has improved. He will be on the bench in the final 2 minutes of a game anyway, because most teams go small.

We need rebounding at the 5 more than we need offensive output. He will help that a lot.

If he's a good finisher at the rim, Rondo will have no trouble getting him his shots in a game.

The ROckets are hilarious, I'm hoping Danny isn't stupid enough to give them Green. I know McHale gave us KG, but that's a highway robbery and we wont have any scorers if trade Jeffrey for Asik.

Morey really thinks he's smarter than every1 else, doesn't he(trying this kind of trades)?
Good assessment:

Do want.
Rondo could make Yi Jianlian's chair an offensive threat.
I would give up Green and a 1st to do it but Greg "Big Bassy" Smith comes back as a throw-in lottery ticket.
I would then go balls deep trying to trade for Kevin Love and Josh Smith.

Am I the only one who feels Asik is greatly overrated? I mean I'd take him for Bass but no picks would be involved. If they didn't like I'd tell them to pound sand.

Green would fit HOU extremely well.. we'd need more incentive, though, so Lin would have to shake loose in any trade, probably to a third team..

Thanks for the reply, and right there with you (though much more wild about Love than Smoove).

WOW! Green and a pick? Mind sharing your advanced stats (ASS and TEN+) on Asik and Smith?

You'd rather trade Green to get an unproven Shooting Guard than a proven 7 footer? And you're throwing around the word "Naive". Hahaha .

Green and a 1st is overpaying IMO. There's a reason Houston likes the idea of Jeff Green going there. He's better than Asik.

Not sure why you would want both Smith and Love. Smith at the 3 kind of sucks..I'd rather have Jeff Green at the 3 than him. Love is going to be damn near impossible to get.

Houston originally wanted multiple 1st round picks to now Jeff Green. If we wait another week we can probably get Asik for Colton Iverson and a few 2nd round picks. Hold out Danny!

I'd rather package Bass for one of those things too... but it is unrealistic. Bass for a fringe lotto pick? Never going to happen. Bass for McL? Never going to happen. Maybe in a package... but what else are we giving up?

"His only worth is on a ready-made contender that's one piece away from a title." - could be said about Bass too.

Basically... whatever package you think Bass is going to be a part of... Asik could be in as well. No one said we have to keep Asik long term. We have too many PFs and no Centers. This trade makes us better. And if we want to make a "big" trade later in the season... I would think most teams would prefer Hump/Asik then Hump/Bass.

It's naive to think Brandon Bass would help us beat any contender in the next 3 years any more then Asik would. In fact... I am 100% sure that while neither is putting us over the top... we would have a better shot with Asik then Bass. 100% sure.

How about??

Boston gets Asik, Turner & Greg Smith
Houston gets Green & Hawes
Philly gets Bogans, Brewer, Crawford, whom they can send to Miami for a pick, and Houston's 2014. (Not sure what else Boston would need to throw in for Turner?? Maybe the 2014 BKN/ATL pick?? Maybe Olynyk??)

Lineup when Rondo returns: Asik, Sully, Turner, Bradley, Rondo
Bench: Olynyk, Bass, Wallace, Lee, Pressey, Fav, Hump, Smith, Brooks

While I'm sure Houston & Boston would be all over it, Philly would never do this. They're not going to trade Turner & Hawes for Jordan Crawford, a couple of scrubs and some late 1st round picks.
