I was really impressed with this move...

Then I notice the guy guarding him...
I just don't think Embiid would of been able to pull that move against anyone remotely athletic.

Hakeem did those moves against David Robinson and other elite centers.

Embiid is still very young though.... I still stick to the agile Marc Gasol comparison.

Which would make him a potential 1st team All-NBA.

Actually if you ask me which Center I want for my perfect championship caliber team, I will chose Asik hands down

Are you just saying things without any reasoning behind them?

He has pulled off similar pivot moves against other players...they just usually foul him so he doesn't finish.

And what the hell is an agile Marc Gasol...you take his biggest weakness and turn it into a strength and that is a projection. This isn't even taking into account that they have totally different post games.

Yes, Hakeem did that...as a physically mature man in his prime. He certainly wasn't doing it when he was riding the pine his first year at the University of Houston.

Does not Embiid doing this at such a young age and at such an early stage of his development portend bigger and better things when he reaches his prime? And isn't that the point?

A more athletic, more agile Marc Gasol is a reasonable comparison. It should be said, though, that such a player would easily be 1st team all-NBA and a leading MVP candidate.

Look... I was particular with my post referring to that actual play.
And I'm not the only one bringing up the Marc Gasol comparison. I've seen Marc Gasol pull post moves and footwork like what that play showed.

Saying he is the next Hakeem is so premature and unlikely, Hakeem is once in a lifetime

And just to put you at ease I would draft Embiid with the first pick if I was GM of my team and have the first pick.

He has a great ceiling but I think he still is far away from doing those moves against NBA centers. But I would sign Hakeem as hid personal mentor if I have the opportunity.

I love the Marc Gasol comparison although I think Embiid has the potential to be much better than Gasol offensively and just if not better defensively. If he reaches that potential in 5-6 years then that's the best C in the NBA. Embiid has scary good potential.

I'm scared of these prospects that come from over seas who JUST started playing ball a few years ago.

With that said, damn I'm impressed with him, he and Wiggans are my two fav right now based on potential.

Same here. We really don't know how his body will respond to long term basketball stress. How will those knees and feet hold up? We just don't know. For what it's worth, Duncan started balling when he was in HS. He was a swimmer prior to playing ball iirc.

With that being said, he's still getting picked in the top 3 now.

I wouldn't be scared. I'm sure Embiid's played sports before - just like Olajuwon did... and Mutumbo did, etc. With any 7 footer, there's a little more risk - no matter where he came from and how much basketball he played.

Embiid is one of the better C prospects I've ever seen. He's already so good already, but there's just so much untapped potential there. Being as young and inexperienced as he is right now, his ceiling almost seems limitless. It's exciting to watch every game the guy plays because he's usually bringing something new to the table each time.

I think by the end of the year he'll be first pick. There's too much to like, and too few centers who can play. I'd like to see New Orleans get the first pick and pair him with Davis....that would be a reason to buy league pass.

Embiid with another tremendous game. 17 pts (4-4 from field. 9-12 from line) and 8 reb. Didn't have any draw dropping moves today but he was efficient. Great defense defending the basket including an awesome blocked dunk. Great hands and touch around basket. Its great to see him starting to knock FTs down at an efficient level.

Jay Bilas said he hasn't seen a C come into college in the last 10 years with the potential Embiid shows. Said whenever Embiid comes out he's gonna be the #1 pick. He was extremely impressed with Joel.

Just so much talent and it is incredible how fast he is progressing. On top of that, kid seems to play with a great demeanor.

Yeah, Bilas is definitely a believer.

Some additional thoughts on Embiid from the KU-Georgetown game:

- he showed off his nice shooting stroke with a sweet midrange jumper and his free throws;
- his other 3 fga's were two +1's where he finished through contact and a monstrous follow-up jam;
- he had 2 steals in addition to his highlight reel block;
- has scored 35 points on 10 fga's in the last 2 games versus New Mexico and Georgetown (9/10 fg, 17/22 ft).

Also, when he came down from the monster follow-up jam, he landed on another player's foot, which can often lead to a torn up foot or ankle or knee. I cringed when I saw it, but Embiid was totally fine. The reason I bring this up is that there are studies that show that elderly people who engage in a little bit of soccer each week develop radically stronger/healthier knees and ankles compared to control groups. What I'm wondering is whether Embiid's background in soccer will serve him well from an injury-prevention standpoint. Now obviously that one play doesn't prove anything, and it's obviously possible that he might have avoided injury on the play even if he had never played soccer, but it did get me thinking that his soccer background may help him to be a more durable player than he would otherwise be.

Bilas is delusional, Embiid is nowhere near Oden was, it's just that simple.

Other than Oden? he might have a point.

I want to see Embiid putting the ball on the floor and driving more.
