What would it take for you to trade Oladipo?

Post#1 » by MellowRose » Wed Dec 18, 2013 4:20 pm

No, I haven't given up on Oladipo or anything like that, but if we were to get Marcus Smart in this draft, what offer would a team have to make for you to be willing to part ways with Oladipo?

I'd probably do a Oladipo for LaVine trade if LaVine continues to show out and continues to improve. For me, just the thought of a Smart-LaVine back court makes me want to drool. A Smart-Lavine back court also makes more sense than a Smart-Oladipo back court does to me.

As someone posted earlier, Oladipo seems to be the personality guy, but not necessarily the best player on the team, and I agree with this assessment.

Anyways, who would you trade Oladipo for?

Nothing right now unless it is something crazy like a top 5 pick in this draft or an all star. (not saying he's worth that but that's what it'd take)

If you place Oladipo in this year's draft, he's really not that high.

1. Embiid
2. Jabari
3. Wiggins
4. Randle
5. Smart
6. Exum
7.LaVine
8. Gordon
9. Vonleh
10. Oladipo

Either way you look at it, Oladipo's not going before the 6th pick.

I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't trade Oladipo for LaVine if we got Smart.

I'd put him in the 5-7 range of this draft. I think he has a crapload of potential, and there is 0 percent chance all 9 of those players become all-star players. Some will bust. How is he behind Vonleh? Smart and Oladipo is a very possibly backcourt for us without trading Oladipo and i think it would be really good.

we should trade all of our players for 18 year old college freshmen because its obvious they are all going to be all-stars.

I actually like the idea of a Smart/Dipo backcourt. I still think Dipo ends up being a high level 6th man though.

Uhh, no one said anything about anyone being future all-stars. I also don't understand how age factors into any of this. All of these guys are young and full of potential.

A Smart-Oladipo would be great. IMO though, a Smart-LaVine backcourt is better.

Anyways, the question still remains. Who would you guys trade Oladipo for?

Why do you think he'd go num. 10 in this draft? Bro Oladipo is a better prospect than everyone but Exum Wiggins or Parker in this draft.

Disagree. Teams would pick Embiid, Smart (can play pg and sg already), Randle (pf's like Randle are rare).

We all know that if we had a choice last draft, we would've picked Smart over Oladipo. Same holds true now as well.

1. Embiid
2. Jabari
3. Wiggins
4. Randle
5. Smart (Smart> Oladipo both in Smart's versatility in playing pg and sg, and he's putting monster numbers in college)
6. Exum
7. Oladipo

He's not going before 7. No way.

As a rookie his absolute value is different than his current value. I'd say his current value is as a tier 4 guy, which is pretty much what picks 1-7 are in this draft imo. So if I liked a prospect better than him (I don't, at least not decisively) I trade him for that. In terms of trading him for an established player, I'd rather let his value appreciate before making that move, but if I did make that move it would be for a tier 1 player only.

No one's going to trade a tier 1 player for Oladipo. Therefore, I think a GM needs to start looking for a player who's the best fit on the team. Having two players who are extremely turnover prone and have low Assist to TO rates seems pretty repetitive and potentially detrimental. Sure, the defensive potential is there with a Smart-Oladipo back court, but what are we going to do in a half court setting offensively (thinking about playoffs)?

The Bledsoe-Dragic combo works because one is a driver/slasher and the other can drive, but can also shoot the ball pretty well (54.9% eFG%)

Oladipo has the lowest AST/TO rate in the league at SG with a ratio of .99. Dragic has the 4th highest AST/TO ratio among SG's at 2.33. Bledsoe has the 7th worst AST/TO ratio among PG's at 1.82. Westbrook's rating is a 1.66 (4th worst). The reasono however, Bledsoe and Westbrook are still effective is because they average about 7 assists per game. Oladipo is averaging 3.5 APG.

Also worth noting after reading the above is that Oladipo is averaging 31.5 touches per game. Bledsoe and Dragic are averaging 77.4 and 74.5 touches per game, respectively. What will happen to Oladipo's TO rate and AST/TO ratio once he touches the ball more than 2 times the amount he is right now?

I think the defensive potential of a Smart-Oladipo backcourt is clouding a lot of judgments. We'll be extrmely limited offensively on the perimeter and will be hoping for foul calls left and right. A slasher combined with a shooter who can also take it to the basket is the best back court you can have imo.

There's also potential with a Smart-LaVine back court (worth noting that LaVine has tremendous defensive potential), or a Smart - (SG Who can shoot the ball and play D) back court.

Just my 2 cents.

Let's compare oladipo to the following:

Embiid- Soooo raw. He could be Hakeem or he could be Thabeet. I wouldn't take that chance.
Jabari- Jabari is better
Wiggins- Wiggins is better
Randle- No way is Randle a better prospect than Oladipo. His obvious flaws such as lack of size, length and shooting ability leave him behind someone like Oladipo, who has rare physical ability for his position
Smart- This one is debatable but ultimately I think Oladipo ends up being the pick because he is a better athlete
Exum-Exum is better
Lavine- Lavine has more upside, probably but Oladipo's intangibles put him in front.

so, for me he goes 4-6 in this draft, assuming he was the same age he was last year.

And how come you had him at 10 before and now you put him at 7 in your new list?

Oladipo has been playing point guard, in any setting, for a total of 3 month! What do you expect? He was a POWER FORWARD in high school. Give him a few years and he will be vastly improved at passing the ball.

It seems as OP came in here just to knock Oladipo's value. Just calling it like I see it.

He was at #10 in my first list because I was just being stupid and highly critical. I guess where Oladipo goes in the draft is subjective. For you it's 4-6. For me, it's nowhere before #6. For someone else it could be top 3. Time will only tell.

I'm one of the biggest Oladipo fans you'll find. I just think that a Smart-Oladipo won't be as great of a backcourt as some people like to think.

Also, admittedly, I'm more of a LaVine fan than any other prospect currently in the NBA or in the draft.

I think that's true for a lot of players, so it's not really a valid excuse or a way to show someone's potential. As of right now, what does Oladipo have that LaVine doesn't?

LaVine has the handles, the shot, the athleticism, the crazy length, and the defensive potential. I've also seen a little alpha-dog in him when he called a huddle at UCLA and everyone was listening to him.

What does Oladipo have on someone like LaVine? He has athleticism (not the type LaVine does though), a pretty good defensive player so far. His shot is inconsistent, doesn't have the handles, low AST/TO ratio.

So homer glasses aside, what does Oladipo have that LaVine doesn't?

And to anyone who says I'm just here bashing Oladipo, that's not the case. I'm just looking at the future, and saying that if we pick Smart, would Oladipo really fit? And if he does, what makes him a better fit than someone like LaVine?
