Enough with Jeff Green. He is a nice player. He is a solid player. He is not a player you build around as top-3 guy. He has a 15.41 PER and ranks 14th among starting SFs. That makes him league average. He is a solid defender, not a great one. Celtics have a chance to acquire a premier defensive center for an average SF and average PF without giving up any picks.

A "premier" defensive center who can't defend stretch bigs, can't play offense worth a lick, who is a prime Hack-a-Shaq candidate at the end of games and is already 27 years old (meaning he doesn't have much more room to grow) and overpaid?

Yeah! Let's trade Green for him even though the Celtics struggle offensively as it is! Sign me up!!!

Agreed 100%. And for all the people saying that Jeff is replaceable...at what cost? A player of his skill set doesn't come on such a cost controlled contract very often. Look at other Small Forwards in the league with similar production. He's a steal.

There's actually a lot of quality defensive centers out there in the NBA now. The more I think about it, the more I think we may be overrating Asik by calling him a top 5 defensive center, never mind top overall defender. His role is still one that is definitely needed by the Celtics though, either by him or one of the others. Off the top of my head here's a list of centers who I think may be better, or at least as good, of a rim protecting, post defender as Asik. In no particular order:

Tyson Chandler
Joaquim Noah
Deandre Jordan
Larry Sanders
Dwight Howard
Marc Gasol
Roy Hibbert
does Serge Ibaka count in a convo about centers??

That's 7 (or maybe 8), just at his position, and that's forgetting guys like Andrew Bogut, Tiago Splitter, Kendrick Perkins (ok..maybe not anymore, but I still have a soft spot for him), Javale McGee, Chris Anderson, Nikola Pekovic, or Marcin Gortat, all of whom are fine defenders but I think Asik is better than. I was surprised to see just how many players filled his role, we give it so much credit for being hard to find. I'd still trade for him, because he is really good and he's available (bird in the hand, etc...). I'd be a little bummed though if the Knicks or Bulls decide to tank and trade away Chandler or Noah for not much more than we paid for Asik.

Tyson Chandler
Injury prone and old.
Joaquim Noah
Yes but bad feet = trouble.
Deandre Jordan
Hell no.
Larry Sanders
Good but skinny and abuses dogs and gets in fights. No thank you.
Dwight Howard
Jackass.
Marc Gasol
Yes
Roy Hibbert
Hell yes.
does Serge Ibaka count in a convo about centers??
No

Andrew Bogut
Overpaid but good.
Tiago Splitter
Meh
Kendrick Perkins
Atrocious
Javale McGee
Not even close
Chris Anderson
OK shot blocker. Too many tattoos
Nikola Pekovic
Good offense, just big, not great defender
Marcin Gortat
Can't spell defense.

Asik is a top-5 defensive center.

Not saying it will happen, but Hump and the Clippers pick for Asik would be hilarious, and would mean that Danny traded Doc Rivers and a washed-up trio of KG, Pierce and Terry for Brad Stevens, Omer Asik, Gerald Wallace, 3 almost entirely unprotected Nets 1st rounders, the right to swap another 1st with them, and a $10m trade exception.

He should be jailed if that deal lands him Asik.

He probably already should be jailed for how he stole Crawford.

Portland emerging as a team interested in acquiring Asik.. we could however do a three way trade and acquire either asik or leonard picks package..

portland is interested in beefing up their bench and bass + lee come to mind to help themm out

No idea who gets what, but, yeah, Danny seems pretty intent on getting his fingers in this pie.

Not sure what Boston gets here...if The Cavs trade Varejao it's for Asik I assume. Unless Ainge budged on Jeff Green.

Btw, Sam Amico is a Cavs beat writer, so he is credible.

I think The Rockets send a pick to the Cavs, and Boston send Humphries and a pick. That's too rich for Varejao IMO.

Boston gets Asik, Houston get Varejao. I see no other reason why we should be involved.

Unless Ainge chocks the world and trade Rondo for Lin, Asik.

It will be interesting to see the details of this 3 way. I can't see Ainge moving Jeff Green for Asik. Could be Waiters moving to Houston.

Can't say I trust Amico and his sources. He's always throwing around trade rumors.

Isn't Robin Lopez their starting center now? Where would he fit into the mix?

Houston wants a defensive sg and a big to play alongside Howard.

Maybe Danny doesn't like AB at market value and decides to move him to get waiters to preserve cap space and help Cle land asik.

Asik to Boston, Varejao to Houston and Wallace to Cleveland works for me. :D

Why would the Cavs want Asik? I would think they would be after Green in this situation.

I know they wanted Jeff Green, but would they be willing to settle for Wallace if we threw in a pick? Perhaps we give them the Clipper pick, plus an option to swap picks during another year. Cap space is useless to a team like Cleveland anyhow. Lebron's not going home.

or looking to move Waiters for some assets, for example Bogans and a pick.

Question I have is would Ainge give up Jeff Green for Asik and Bennett? I wouldn't but Ainge might be thinking along those lines.
