Personally, I'm not in favor of surrendering a first round pick for Asik. On the other hand, I'm open to this deal if only players are involved in the trade.

Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Donatas Motiejunas and Omri Casspi in exchange for Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and Phil Pressey.

let's just say Morey would sooner pay 50 million bucks to buy out both Lin and Asik before that trade happens.

The best deal would be a "Asik for Ryan Anderson" swap btw. Pelicans need a defensive-minded Center and the Rockets a "stretch 4" -> Ryan Anderson is one of the best in this case...

Have to wait how the pick protection will look like - a top 12 protection sounds fair to me...
Don´t like Brandon Bass as backup C but the whole package sounds okay for Houston.

Beverley/ Lin/ Brooks
Harden/ Lee/ Brewer
Parsons/ Casspi/ Garcia
Jones/ Motiejunas
Howard/ Bass/ Smith

Boston will win this deal imo because they could put back Jared Sullinger on the PF and Kelly Olynyk is a very solid backup C.
With the return of Rajon Rondo the C´s have enough picks, solid contract situation (except Wallace) and a EC-playoff lineup (the last fact isn´t that hard though...)

Rondo/ Crawford/ Pressley
Bradley/ Brooks/ Bogans
Green/ Wallace
Sullinger/ Humphries
Asik/ Olynyk/ Faverani

From the Wednesday Boston Herald:
Multiple sources confirmed that an offer of Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round draft pick — protected, at that — was indeed made by the Celts ... last week. When it was summarily turned down by the Rockets, the matter was closed and remained such as of late today.

The article is entitled, "Celtics-Rockets trade talks not so hot"

Wojnarowski's news is nothing ... new.

Morey is really struggling to up Asik's asking price and we all fell for it.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Ehh, even as a Boston guy I trust Woj significantly more than either the Herald or the Globe.

I think the sticking point (as reported by Stein and others) is the draft pick. I imagine Ainge is saying either a future protected Boston pick, or the LAC first in 2015.

The deal is being reported as "dead" because there's somewhat of a stare-down.

Just my opinion....

Tetlak wrote:I like this for both teams. The one confusing thing about this is that I was under the impression that one of Houston's requirements was to get a backup center back. Bass is not that. Lee is a nice bench piece for Houston because they need a little bit more athleticism on the wings, but I cant help but think Lee would go to the Cavs for Varejao or Zeller.

Would love to have Lee on the Cavaliers, but I can't imagine it would be worth dealing Andy to get him.
Zeller and Gee would match salaries (this year).

Leaving Cleveland out of the deal, I think this makes sense for both Houston and Boston. It would be in Houston's best interest to make a follow up deal though too.

He´d play some minutes on C with Motiejunas next for the 5 spot...

Smith is a competent backup center, while Bass is a pf. The depth chart putting him in at backup center didn't really make any sense to me.

Makes a lot of sense. Also, in case I missed it, the Globe didn't report this proposed offer last week. So, even if it is stale, it would still be new news.

A lot of people think they know what's what, yet they don't know what Greg Smith can do.

I would guess it was offered and rejected last week when HOU thought Milsap was an option, now someone in the HOU front office leaked it to Woj and is trying to re-open negotiations, in the hope of someone stepping in to beat the BOS offer. BOS should now feel more confident playing hardball as the other options appear to be drying up.

Rondo/Afflalo/Green/Sully/Asik would be a possible 3 seed in the East.
