Is Isaiah Thomas Legit?

Post#1 » by SF_Warriors » Wed Dec 11, 2013 5:17 am

He is averaging 18 and 5 this year.

I've always thought of him as a solid player, very good backup, but he is undersized.

You guys think he can be the starting PG of the future? He has been impressive this year.

It's a legit question!

If you look at it in terms of what we were doing in previous years he challenged other point guards on the roster for playing time and was put into the mix then. He's gotten better. The thing about Isaiah that makes him good is he's a deadly shooter. People who can shoot on top of having other weapons are harder to guard.

Some of us have been waiting for his height to negatively define him. I think if he were 6'3" we'd have a different perception of him.

I'd like to see him be a little more pass 1st, but to be fair to him I don't know if anyone has truly asked him to be that player yet? I don't think what he's doing is a fluke.

He's a legitimate offensive threat. He has a great shot, a beautiful teardrop touch, and great handle. As already mentioned, his court vision could improve to where he can hit his open teammates when he draws the defense.

I think implied within the question of "is he legit?" is whether or not he could lead a championship team. In this case, in order to lead a championship team you also need to be able to defend the opposing pt. guard and make it difficult for him to implement their offense. This is the real drawback to someone with IT's size. He might be able to put some pressure on the passing lanes with his speed, but a smart pg that is larger and stronger will be able to exploit that difference in size.

However, because he's so quick and deadly, he would definitely be a legitimate 6th man or early part of the bench rotation for a championship contender.

This is right on the money. He's a pretty damn good offensive talent, who has a great arsenal of shots. He can keep up with a lot of guys with his quickness, but give the opposing player ANY space at all, and they can just shoot right over him (check the last game vs the Lakers for reference). Even without space, some players can just shoot right over him when he's playing good, solid defense.

Yes. But Don't take my word for it. Watch a Kings game and that will answer your question.

I watched kings games only against the warriors because:

a) kings are almost never on national tv
b) I only get CSN bay area

The two games I watched...
thomas was 2/10 in the first game
and 5/16 in the next, but he had 19 and 8 assts...but also 7 turnovers

Which is why I came here because the one other game I saw he was dominant (forgot who they played aginst, and he is putting up great stats overall.

SO if I base it on the warriors games I watched...no isaiah is not legit...
but overall, I'd say he can defintily keep this pace up, and is a nightmare to defend because of his shooting ability and speed.
He got around iguodalal at will it seemed like when they played.

Thomas is basically a clone of his pal Jamal Crawford. Both are super explosive scorers who can handle and make plays.

I wish sacremento rather have mike conley. I think their plays similar to each other. Main difference conley taller which makes him better guard on.both defence and offense.
So far isiah thomas is good.
Is tony parker good defender? I wont say that. But with a good defensive strategy you can drive opponent pg's too big man. Also r.gay is pretty good help.defense guys with his atleticism

The pizza guy is a good offensive player but gets lost in the defense. The team have a very hard time defending the pick and roll play because when the switchs it a very big match up diffrence already.

Somebody like IT should be able to fight through or at least get around those screens more effectively. He's a small target, stick and move! hahaha.
