If Morey's not going to deal now, then he has to pray some contender's center goes down with a major injury, cause Asik's just losing value every day he sits @ the end of Houston's bench in street clothes... Morey bluffed and no one bit, and now he's just looking like more of turd...

I never thought he was going to be traded here. Not excatly sure what Houston expects to get but I tought Bass and Lee (who can play now and help them) plus a pick for a guy who is just rotting on the bench was a fair deal.

No surprise to hear that talks are "dead" 1 day before this deadline of sorts. It is a game of chicken and both sides are trying to extract as much value as they can. To suggest that Morey and Danny are done having conversations is a joke, though. They will talk and if they can stomach the compensation it will get done. If not, then both sides move on. Seems to me like Houston is asking for a lot. Hawes and a pick for Asik? I don't think that package is available now or in Feb. I am sure Morey wants an unprotected future pick and Ainge is rightfully not going to part with that for a guy who is sabotaging is tenure on the Rockets as is. Seems to me like Ainge has the leverage here.

On top of that. He's clearly not a 15 millions dollar player. Regardless of the cap implications

Totally agree regarding the leverage here. Not sure how Morey ever thought he would get a first rounder from Philly, if he indeed did. They obviously aren't moving either of this year's lotto picks. Then following that, Philly owes:

A first rounder to Miami either this year or next (then extinguishes)
A first rounder to Orlando two years after passing on that pick

So assuming that Philly doesn't make the playoffs next year, and the Miami pick gets annulled and they immediately send a pick to Orlando, the soonest they can send another one out is 2017. And this is from a full-on tear down asset building situation.

Morey's done a great job rebuilding that club, but he's going to struggle to get what he what he was looking for here.

Seems Morey wanted Hawes and a first rounder from Boston, but Boston would also have to give up a 1st to Philly, cause they don't want or need Asik...

Nor is he a $5m player. Average it out and you come to 10 mil and that's about right.

Yes, that makes sense. If so, glad the C's held off on players and two picks. Got to drive a harder bargain than that.

I feel like Hawes is overrated, dude had a big spike in production for half a season two years ago before his last FA, and generally has looked like a big ninny in the playoffs against Boston.

Maybe Asik left practice to see another team's doctor, maybe ours?

It was fun watching KG terrorize him during that series.

Now is the time that Danny should call his preferred source and leak that he is interested in Hawes.

I'm not a Hawes fan, but he could backup Dwight and play some stretch 4. Morey probably also like that they'd open up some cap room w/ Hawes' expiring contract.. Good luck trying to find a team willing to give up 2 firsts for Asik though.

No they didn't. They received a top 55 protected 2nd rounder in '14 from a team that is tanking they got nothing but a favor please make this mistake go away. Same as Boston did with Melo.

Oops, I didn't know that. I just knew it was for future draft consideration, which in my mind equaled a pick.

That being said, I stand by my original comment in that Morey is doing just fine in this negotiation. Lots of posturing from every side going on at the moment, this is not the time to jump to conclusions.

See that is the problem he doesn't have posturing from every side he is posturing and nobody else is playing along. He can't create a market for his player, so instead of trying to coax the offers he didn't like he dismissed them thinking in some way this might make people come with better offers instead he has nothing. He is negotiating with himself. The only guy he is talking to is Hinkie who has no interest or really ability of giving him what he wants.

Right, but he would only have been a $10 million a year player if Boston had gotten him at the beginning of the season. Now that 1/3 of the season is over, he now becomes an $11 million a year player for Boston. If Ainge waits until February 19th, when 2/3s of the season will be in the history books, his yearly salary jumps to $12.5 million. The longer that Ainge waits, the more we miss out on Asik's services while he is a relative bargain. Which might mean his asking price will be lower in two months, but it also gives us a lot less time to work him into the rotation as well.

It's too bad Mannix has been creeping on these boards looking for info. Makes it more difficult for ddb and LBF to post updates from their sources. Would love to hear from them as to what really went down.

He's just losing value the longer they wait.

I suspect he's moved by this weekend, and suspect the Dec. 19/20 date is just a bluff by Houston to get the best offers on the table, cause they want to get Asik moved asap. Houston's probably not that intent on moving the players they acquire in a trade at the deadline.

Heck! I'd make Philly an *offer* of Bogans and a pick for Hawes. Philly might take that offer and then *we* have Hawes.

Just how bad does Morley want him? Straight up swap for Asik? If not, Hawes is still an asset that can be used now and flipped later if he's not worth keeping.

haven't talked to anyone from within bball ops circles in 2 days. I'll let you know when I do.

Seems to me that the deal could still very well get done. Houston, regardless of what they say is not keeping Asik there much longer. That team needs to move on and gel otherwise it'll be a wasted season. Whoever comes in return from Asik will be an important piece to their puzzle. That isn't something they're looking to do at the deadline. I view this as posturing by Morey in hope that he can get as much out of the trade partner as possible. And Ainge just isn't going to bend over. As everyone has been saying, he's a G.

I still think the Celtics get this done. I still think it'll be a 3-team deal. And the only other scenario is if a surprise team swoops in with a great offer.

That pretty much spells out the scenario that Morey is in. He wants a certain type of player that fits into his roster - ie, a guy that can play the 4 or 5 depending on the matchups, can shoot it with range, and also is on a good contract.

In addition, he doesn't want any bad salary, so he can be a player in free agency next year.

And, he also wants a good draft pick on top of all of that, so he can be a player in bigger name trade scenarios down the road, without going into pick debt.

Sounds like he can definitely get one of those three, and probably two. He just isn't finding all three. I wonder if he regrets not being the other half of the Gortat-Okafor deal from earlier in the year.
