Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXV
Thad Young anybody?
He demanded a trade, we should try everything we can to get him.
Maybe something like
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=k3zgewd
and a second rounder would be enough.
Wall
Beal
Ariza/Webster
Young
Gortat/Nene
Would be a great defensive and offensive rotation, maybe Booker works out as a backup 4. Then we need the Backup PG and SG, and we are really solid!

Why the hell would we not go for hill? he's cheap and a great rebounding big which is an area of need for us.
I'd love to have Jordan Hill -- but I seriously doubt they're marketing him.
I thought XH was going to be a good NBA player, and it does look like he's coming around a little (not much...); he's only 22. But who would they want from us in a trade for him?
Vesely, Singleton and Maynor for Hill and Henry? They wouldn't go for it....

It would definitely add depth. But he isn't really the defensive rebounder that we need. But you would see his 3pt shooting percentage climb. And it would lock up a lot of cap room.

What could LA possibly hope to get in return for a guy like Nick Young or Xavier Henry who both happen to be unrestricted free agents in 6 months.
Henry/Young: Playoff-caliber teams like Washington, Detroit and Minnesota that are in need of additional scoring and 3-point shooting off the bench could become suitors for either of these two guards.
I mean, I would trade a future second for Henry but that's about it.

I'm more interested in Jordan Hill. I don't know what we'd have to give up for him, but I wonder if a Maynor+Ariza+Booker for Hill+Henry dude has any appeal to em.

Young is imo the missing piece to really make us a contender for the playoffs, this season even for a deep playoffrun. His rebounding and defense are solid enough to live next to gortat.
Would be great, would do it in a heartbeat.

thad young? He's a mediocre rebounder, and no better then Booker on defense. I wouldn't give up Porter for young, maybe Ariza...that and a 2nd rounder +glen rice jr. I'm very on the fence about young, he seems like jamison to me...good offensive player but could be a defensive liability. The fact he can stay healthy is the only compelling reason to explore the change to get him. And if we're trading Porter, I'd rather go after Ersan, much better floor spacer and has a superior enough standing reach where he wouldn't be compromised all too much against "real" 4s.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXV
I pretty much agree with what nate said - why trade for Young when you could play Ariza minutes at the 4? Ariza's got significantly more length than Young. Young could add a little inside scoring, but he doesn't do much that Ariza can't do.

I proposed that deal. I would love it, as Wroten is dirt cheap and he obviously has NBA caliber athletcism.
You can always flip Young for more assets down the road if need be.

Now THATS a Porter deal I would do. Nice stretch 4 and an athletic, cheap backup PG. Maybe we throw Maynor in to help their tank if they're willing to take back his Player Option.

Yeah, taking Maynor would be a must, IMO. Also Vesely would likely have to go to match up money. Ted wouldn't want to take back extra salary begging so close to the lux tax.

No. Maybe I'd have considered it if Booker were not outproducing Young, but this trade is all but pointless.
Young is signed for another year at $9.5M -- potentially fair value, but certainly no bargain. Then he has a player option at $10M for 15-16, that he's pretty likely to opt out of to sign a 4-year deal somewhere.
Giving up on Porter at that start of his rookie contract isn't worth that to me.
If you want to get me to give up Porter, you need to give me a real appreciable upgrade for the next few yearr-- a Ryan Anderson, Dragic, etc -- not a superstar, but a really good player. I wouldnt expect one of those teams to bite, by the way. But have no interest in punting on Porter for a "decent" player.

I think it makes a lot more sense to trade Ariza than Porter. The only teams that might value Porter higher would be those that are tanking, where he could be young talent that won't win meaningless games this season. The potential tanking teams that have some talent that could win-now seem to be doing it(Boston and Phoenix).

I completely disagree. No team is going to give much value right now for Ariza (he's not fetching a future 1st). You'll get more value as a S&T in the off-season.
With that said, until Porter shows SOMETHING to warrant being handed the future SF, I'm not even entertaining letting Ariza go.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXV
Porter isn't even being given the chance to perform. He rarely plays alongside our only shot creator in John and the second team ball movement is so bad he gets maybe one clean shot in the other every game situations that he's on.
Trading a guy like Porter for Wroten and Young is the definition of short sided thinking. The point is that we're not good right now. Becoming good enough to go from a 6th seed to the 3rd seed in a bad Eastern conference at the cost of a potential long term core piece is just ridiculous.
I know we're all hungry to win but I'd be shocked if Ariza comes back. He's playing about as well as he can possibly play and this team is barely, and I mean barely keeping pace in a historically bad eastern conference with the team scraping the salary cap.
It'd be one thing if we had a built in excuse like last year with Walls injury--but there's nothing thats happened this year that looks like it'll change over the next few years. Nene is never going to be 100%, and Beal has proven he can't play all-star level minutes without injury--at least at this point in his career anyway.
The smart play is to sure up your short term and long term future in one move by either moving Ariza for bench depth or letting him expire and using the funds to get it that way. You let Porter develop with significantly more minutes and see what you have. If he's a bust? Oh well, you've gone from getting swept in the first two rounds of the playoffs to getting a lottery pick.
If he's the player we and much of the league think we have though he'll get up to speed quickly and we'll likely be a better team than we are now.

This is a tough call. I loved the pick-- maybe sentimental on my part as a GU alum. However holding onto him may be throwing good money after bad. As Nate has written a couple of times, his complete lack of game at this point should at least be cause for concern.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXV
Thomas Robinson was the 5th pick in a much deeper draft last year. He's now been traded twice. Porter doesn't have the body, strength, or awareness to play in the NBA now. You think he can hang with starters like Pierce, Johnson, Melo, etc. that we've recently faced? He has to develop an NBA body before he's even capable of playing regular minutes.
