If you're feeling empathy for our "poor players", take heart knowing they are banging models, buying mansions and splashing us with their limos after a loss.

They'll be fine.

I'm sorry TZ. It's just so much easier for me if I don't tune in. But I did tune in. And I got sucked into wanting them to pull it off. Now I feel like crap. Though it might be that bag of Doritos I ate.

Masai needs to make a decision fast- either keep going on this treadmill road or make some changes to seriously be a player in the 2014 draft. Hate to break everyone's heart- but i see an another 8-12 Draft Pick in 2014, and fans of this franchise again wondering why this team had to win more games than necessary.

I don't think most people envisioned trading Gay would have such a dramatic effect. But it has, and now Ujuri does have to make a choice. I hope he will not make a decision based on the outcome of this season, and focus on the long-term.

Many of us originally thought trading Gay and Lowry would put us in position to get a high pick. It's looking that it might take gutting the team entirely, and that's a much more difficult thing to do.

It's so frustrating to be a sports fan in Toronto.

I posted this in the other thread that got locked, but I'll post it here too.

Can we all agree that Gay and Bargnani are god-awful players (at least when playing on the Raps)? Two players that have negative value and clearly helped us lose more than win.

Can we all agree that Masai isn't an idiot? He has proven he understands the NBA and its players.

With those two assumptions, isn't it logical to believe that if Masai wanted to win the lottery he knows how to make the team horrible? Furthermore, isn't it illogical to trade the two players that were our "tank commanders" if you're trying to lose? It doesn't make any sense. Bargnani has shown for 6 years how much he helps us lose, and Rudy was shooting historically low percentages, helping us to a 6-12 (or whatever it was) record. While I agree that Masai did the trades to gain assets and flexibility, he made the team definitively better. Doesn't it make sense that If we wanted to get worse THIS YEAR, he would have kept them?

I mean, what exactly is there to indicate we are tanking?

When you make trades and gain assets that are players (as opposed to draft picks), you are in effect making the team better. With every high upside young player you add, the better chance the roster improves and you win more games. You don't add high upside young players in a vaccuum; when you add them there's a good chance that they begin to positively affect your teams output, ultimately stagnating your ability to tank (the other option is to get fleeced in trades and get nothing for assets).

My personal preference it to tank, but I do see an issue if teams aren't willing to give away draft picks. How do you win trades and gain assets, yet tank at the same time when no one wants to part with draft picks? Your return is always going to be young players with upside. This is kind of what happened to Phoenix and they've now all but abandoned their tank.

EDIT - Oh, there's a thread specifically on this. I'll go there!

I'm all for tanking, but it's actually possible we can both compete, and still end up with a high draft pick...

I don't necessarily think it's very likely, but if we were to compete at a certain level, make the playoffs, and win a couple of games, that the value of our players could increase to the point that Masai could include them in deals to let us trade up in the draft.

We probably have the same odds of accomplishing that than getting the first pick in the draft this year.

That being said, this draft is too deep to not be doing everything you can to set yourself up with as high a pick as possible.

Our player value is not likely to go up by squeaking into the playoffs with 35 wins and then the Heat or Pacers beating us up so badly that they only need 3 games to win a 7 game series.

Luckily this team is about as consistent as Andrea Bargnani is. The losses will come
