ESPN: Bulls "determined" to NOT trade Deng

The thing is, if money were no option, no one would even complain about keeping Deng.

People are making it seem like we would keep some horrible player that just kills the game. Deng without question is top 5 at his position on both ends.

Most peoples single problem is he doesn't score they way they want him to. That's it.

But yet even though he doesn't score that way, he still ends up scoring doesn't he?

But like most have said, if we have an actual strategy with this, I am fine.

But don't end next year with Gar saying, we wanted to resign Deng but his asking price would have put a damper on our flexibility. - i.e. the Asik speech

That's what I'm afraid will happen. Depending on how this off season goes (if Lebron stays in Miami and Melo in New York) then Deng would be the best small forward free agent available with multiple teams looking to improve that position. I like Deng but if GarPax can't come to a verbal agreement with him about his next contract by the trade deadline they should trade him.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see the Bulls wanting all these draft picks. You already see that Thibodeau doesn't play rookies much (Snell, Butler, Teague and Murphy for obvious reasons). We're already possibly looking at 3 draft picks next year in the top 40, and that's without any future trades.

Let's say we get a mid to late 1st for Deng and maybe a 2nd for Dunleavy. You can't tell me you expect Tom Thibodeau to play up to 5 rookies. Of course, we could always draft and stash Euros.

I would assume that because at least one of the players involved in the trade (currently unmentioned/unknown) was newly signed using Bird or Early Bird rights.

I'm not seeing it. Dec 15th was the date for players signed this off season, so you're basically looking at players signed as free agents in November? Find me a player that's was signed as a free agent after the season began that is worth holding up a trade for?

I wasn't aware of that provision but, regardless, it doesn't apply to anyone on the Bulls or Phoenix. You're talking primarily about players who are in their first year after their rookie scale contracts.

KC just posted a story in the Tribute confirming this. Says the Bulls prefer to keep Deng and will not just dump him for salary reasons.

Also said any offers the Bulls have received are underwhelming.

I posted in the tank thread that, imo, the best scenario would be tanking and keeping deng and if this article is true then it looks like that's what's happening. Hopefully Deng will accept a more reasonable deal than 14 or 15 million a year so we can sign Butler.

I was thinking that we'll wait until after the draft before we decide on Deng? Let's say we end up with a top 5 pick and that guy is a SF.......why would we then spend a boatload of money on Lou then?
