I will just say this...the Nets are going to make the playoffs this year.

I know they're sucking right now, and if they were in the west they wouldn't have a shot. But Lopez just came back from injury and Deron is supposed to be back early next week. The NBA is a game of runs, they'll get their **** together, there's too much talent on that team not to. Once they get in a groove, they're going to end up as a 6th-8th seed.

Will they beat Indiana/Miami? Nah. But they aren't going to be at the bottom of the league all season.

And as for the future of the franchise, yeah, trading away all your draft picks is a pretty poor idea. But at least NY is a big market so they have that as an asset.

The Portland pick was one thing, but they really couldn't protect the Boston picks because you can only trade a pick seven years out (the other half of the mentioned Stepien rule).

Say what happens if this pick is protected top 3 and the Nets win the lottery? All the other picks get pushed back a year as you can't trade consecutive future picks. If this happens a couple of times, all of the sudden picks are getting pushed out of the back end of the trade and disappearing. That's why you commonly see single picks traded as 'x protection for so many years or else two second rounders,' that you can't send picks out infinitely into the future.

Now that I think about it, that may be why the Lillard pick was so lightly protected. Not that they thought the other 57 guys in that draft sucked, but they didn't want to get hamstrung in being able to send out more picks in the future as a part of a go for it now plan.

Still, terrible long term outcomes for them, even if they get healthy this season and get bounced in the first round.

I don't agree with your logic

but let me ask you this: why didn't the Nets (Billy King) at least added a protection to the last traded pick then (2017) ?

Same reason. The last one is actually the one most likely affected since there is only one year to push it back.

To judge how bad he is, you have to look at what the Nets could possibly do to be a contender in the next ten years.

He can not trade any of the starters at the moment, maybe Lopez if he comes back healthy, maybe Williams if he is lucky. Johnoson, Garnett and Pierce are unlikely to be movable.

The only pieces on the bench that might be off interest are AK47, Plumlee and Livingston at a stretch.

No picks to sweeten any deals left, a massive wage bill leaving very little room... The Nets are screwed for years, if not the decade.

It was reported that Otis and Billy had agreed to a deal but it was turned down by Magic ownership. Otis was promptly stripped of power to make trades right away.

I think the league will review "the right to swap picks" due to Billy King's abuse of it and absolutely destroying the Nets future.

Every trade goes through ownership this particular Howard trade was going to get vetoed by them no doubt. Heck Atlanta's ownership rejected the move for Asik two days ago, it went past Ferry but ownership said no.

Every little transaction goes through ownership, they write the checks. It wasn't the fact Otis was "stripped of power", it's just that the Magic weren't going to deal him without getting what THEY want and they wanted a legitimate reason on why they should do it.

Hence, they traded him to Houston or gave him the option to opt in for 1 year. You know the rest...

Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, and half of Trey Burke.

Billy King has really done a good job helping the Jazz have a solid future. :)

Nope. Atlanta can swap their pick for yours, and then Boston gets whatever's left post-swap.

Essentially, Atlanta gets Brooklyn's pick, Boston gets Atlanta's pick, and Brooklyn gets a hot glass of nothing.

The Brooklyn Nets was supposed to the shiny new franchise that disgrunted Knicks fans could turn to. Instead they have become an mirror image of them, with no chances of winning now or in the years to come.

Good job, Billy King. Good effort.

Atlanta, Utah, Boston. Am I missing any other teams that have fueled rebuilds directly through Billy King?

That's exactly the point !

They got stuck with Lopez, what has he done for them ? INJURIED MOST OF THE TIME !
Howard wanted to come so it wasnt that difficult to make that trade, he wasnt that persuasive. That mistake is the beginning of that house of cards !

Colangelo was horrible Fields signing. Ross over Drummond, Turkoglu, Bargnani, but at least AT LEAST we have our 1sts. King is the worst.

Portland with Lillard. He's simultaneously rebuilt 4 franchises. GM of the year!

inb4 Billy King is actually a secret agent working for David Stern with the intention of helping make many more teams competitive through the sacrifice of one franchise.

It wasn't a "mistake"

The fact is it was an extremely difficult trade to make because Brooklyn had nothing to offer Orlando.
How was Billy King suppose to persuade Orlando to trade Dwight to them? Orlando wanted nothing to do with Brooklyn's offer.
