This was also reported by Schanowski. He said the PHX deal was sitting out there as a possibility because it can't happen until mid-Jan.

-- The only deal that fits these contours would have to include Emeka Okafor, because Okafor was traded to the Suns on October 25 and can't be traded in a package with other players again until Christmas, December 25th.

-- Deng has said he will return to playing (he's not playing now) on Christmas, December 25th. The Suns aren't playing until Dec. 27th.

-- Okafor ($14,487,500) and Deng ($14,275,000) work straight up for each other and are both on expiring deals, so you're looking for roughly equal salary from the other pieces. Anyone have an idea about other potential assets? Archie Goodwin?

-- Phoenix has four first round picks this upcoming draft. Their own; Minnesota's (protected 1-13 in 2014); Washington's (protected 1-12 in 2014); and Indiana's (protected 1-14 in 2014).

So we're basically looking at a deal involving Deng + asset for Okafor + pick(s) + asset.

Deng is an upgrade but with the way Tucker/Morris are shooting the 3-ball is it even worth it?

Wait till the offseason and use those assets on a big fish. Suns should sneak in the playoffs anyway...

If we traded Goodwin for Deng, I'd be Irate. I agree with DirtyDez. Leave things be worry about it after the season.

I would do Okafor and a 1st for Deng.

I asked the Bulls board if they would be open to Deng/Noah for Okafor/Green/Len/2 2014 1sts. Some seem to believe that now is the time to blow it up and add future assets, and if trading Deng, might as well trade off Noah and just start the rebuild. If we could get Noah for Green/Len/1st i'd do it.

Completely agree.
Now if it was for Noah... that's a different story.

I'd be pissed if McD sells the young players (Len and Goodwin) and picks for just Deng.

I don't think Bulls are in total rebuild, they have Rose who is just in his mid-20s and Noah just 27.

I wanted Noah from them and would give them Plumlee and picks but I don't think they will because Rose is a franchise player who has a good chance to come back and be an all-star still... Monta Ellis level at worst IMO.

I think it may be Tucker or Green going back to Bulls.

Okafor, Green, Pacers pick for Deng.

Green would help their 3pt shooting and adds athleticism.

Okafor and the twins for Noah/Butler. Our D would be jacked.

Let da Bulls figure out what to do with da Twins since they're mentally-off without each other...

(Throw in a pick if necessary)

I don't want to give up the twins, their depth is gonna be killer for a playoff run.

Why does everyone want the Suns to get older, less athletic and give up future assets to do so? The goal is to build a contender for years to come, not to make a push for the 8th seed at all costs. Trading draft picks for Deng wouldn't be any different than trading Tobias Harris for Redick, who subsequently left the Bucks in the free agency.

I think if this offer was made by Minny, McD would take it in a heartbeat.

My latest thought after the last couple of games, is, do we really need to do anything? We just beat Denver on the road which is a tough thing to do, and a veteran laden playoff fighting Dallas team, we took care of with ease.

And most of our guys are starting full time for their first year. The others, theoretically, should get better. With two pgs who don't shoot all that well from 3 pt range, we need 3s and 4s you can shoot from that distance, and Frye, Green, Tucker and the Morris bros have been doing that...just look at the 3 pt shooting #s from tonight, a team with some good 3 pt shooters.

The tough thing for us now, is that you know we probably need that star to take the next step, but as well as we are playing with these young guys, and with a ton of cap space and a ton of picks, do we need to rush into anything?

If we could get Love, that is a given, but like a couple of people have mentioned, the Wolves are not going to trade him during this season...earliest is next July.

As for Deng, if we could get him for just Okafor and say the Indy pick, it sounds good, but is he going to make us that much better? PJ is a great defender and has been shooting 50% from 3. It would probably help us a bit this year, but would we want or need to pay him BIG money after this year? Is he worth an extra $8-$10 million over Tucker (estimating)?

Deng would be a nice fit and I agree that if all it took was the okafor and the indi pick it would be worth it. I doubt the bulls would deal Noah but he would be a good fit for this team. I wouldn't mind Wilson chandler if he wouldn't cost too much.

I'd do it too (Minni or Indiana's pick, or the worst between our own lotto protected and Was). Noah is great but doesn't come without concerns, particularly health.

But there is no way it makes sense for us to give up Plumlee plus other assets for Noah. Miles has been an absolute monster on D and is young, healthy and basically a rookie.

Deng, on the other hand, is not that appealing to me, so the most I'd give up is Okafor, Green and Indiana's pick, but only if it was clear that we are making the playoffs, which is too precarious right now in the west.

DirtyDez wrote:Okafor and the twins for Noah/Butler. Our D would be jacked.

They are not trading their equivalent contract wise to our Miles Plumlee plus Noah for the twins. And the Morii (Kieff especially) make little sense if they plan to have Gibson and Mirotic, even if they amnesty Boozer.

I agree that they could be key role players in the playoffs. With a slower pace and more halfcourt game, their midrange could turn to be a difference maker, as long as they keep making those tough shots and playing with great energy.

Still, they are, along with Green, they current players I'd be willing to part with for the right price. Noah could be it if we found a third team.

We aren't giving up anything more than the IND 1st and Okafor for a Deng rental. The only way I see us giving more is if he is going to be our 2014 off-season target.

Just doesn't make sense otherwise.

That's essentially 5 1st round picks to rent Love. I'm not sure I would do that if Love was even under a long term contract.

The core of our team is good but we need upgrades at both forward spots. We need a 4 that can hit a jumper or 3,rebound well and play decent defense...the Suns are 5TH WORST IN THE NBA in giving up pts in the paint. Frye would be a nice weapon to have off the bench.

And we need a 3 that can shoot consistently from 3, won't pass up open shots, plays good defense, has the size to finish in the paint if needed and has the ability to create for himself at least a little.

Kevin Love or Ryan Anderson fit the bill for the 4 spot even though their defense is in question. Markieff Morris can also play this role.

Luol Deng fits the glove perfectly for the 3 spot.

I agree that we can use upgrades at the 3 and 4, but we already have solid role players there in PJ and Frye.
SF88 wrote:We need a 4 that can hit a jumper or 3,rebound well and play decent defense...

Frye does that except above average rebounding (his defense is not as bad as they say), but you'd be hard pressed to find a replacement that shoots so well from three, above all from the top of the arch, which is one of the biggest reasons of our success so far and a deadly weapon with Dragic in the pick and pop.

Of course, he has limitations, but also makes $6.5M, which is even a bargain considering the going rate for PF/Cs not on rookie contracts who can do more than chewing and walking at the same time.

What I mean is that if you can get a clear upgrade for the right price, go for it, but I don't consider replacing Frye a need per se. I'd be more interested in finding one more big that plays defense and rebounds while not being a total liability on offense. Amir Johnson comes to mind.

SF88 wrote:And we need a 3 that can shoot consistently from 3, won't pass up open shots, plays good defense, has the size to finish in the paint if needed and has the ability to create for himself at least a little.

Such player would indeed be an upgrade over PJ. Sadly, that player is not Luol Deng.

Well, five first round picks can turn into Alando Tucker, Earl Clark, Kendall Marshall, Michael Beasley and Wesley Johnson.

We have plenty of above avg players. To move the needle RIGHT NOW, we need a star. Like I said in my last post. I don't think I'd do anything at this point. I don't think Minny would do this type of deal right now anyway.

I like where we are right now, but I think McD would do it. I'm not sure if Love would stay either, but I think it's not often you can get a star that provides a lot of what you need. I think he would roll the dice.

Suns trade:
Okafor/Green/Indy First
Suns get:
Thad Young/Afflalo

This rounds out our roster.

Plum/Frye
Young/Markeef Morris
Afflalo/Marcus Morris/Tucker
Dragic/Afflalo/Goodwin
Beldsoe/Dragic

Thunder trade:
Lamb
Thunder get:
Green

Thunder upgrade their SG position cheap for the next two seasons. This gives them experience and shooting at the expense of youth

Magic trade:
Afflalo
Magic get:
Hawes/Lamb

Magic dump long term salary for youth

Sixers trade:
Thad Young/Hawes/Turner
Sixers get:
Okafor/Amir Johnson/Indy First/Lotto Protected Toronto First

Philly goes all tank. Young wants out. Amir/Young is a wash, and they gain two firsts for Turner who they arent in a position to pay big money to.

Raptors trade:
Amir Johnson/Lotto Protected First
Raptors get:
Turner

Raps go in for Turner. Turner/DeMarr woud be something exciting to build around.

Lamb for Green is highly laughable. OKC would block whatever GM's number for insulting them like that.
