Scored a screamer of a FK from about 30 yards out right into the top corner off the crossbar and in. Dude probably has the best left foot in the world.
If Kramer had finished that chance earlier it'd be 3-2 now instead of tied after that offsides goal.

It's a shame that he never got to play in a world cup or play in any major tournament. He's been good for so long

With how hard he sucked when he first joined gladbach I just hope he sticks around for another year to rotate in and finally get to see him in the CL. Would really be great testament to what he's done, although he's getting to that age where he needs to be heavily rotated to stay fresh, even if Favre isn't doing that.

Re: 2013-14 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
Schalke will most likely loan out Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich.
Gotta ask myself whether Kirchhoff thinks Schalke's bench seats are more comfortable than Bayern's?
Even in Mainz he couldn't establish himself as a starting CB and when he was playing DM people in the stands were praying he doesn't make a stupid mistake whenever he touched the ball.
I have no idea why Bayern was ever interested in him. Probably they needed someone to do the laundry or something.

It's not news that Bayern buys players solely to keep them away from the competition. Think of players like Schlaudraff, Baumjohann, Peterson, Rau or Jansen. No one ever really expected them to play for Bayern, but they were bought to keep young talent from joining Bremen, Dortmund or Leverkusen.

If that's true, that sucks. America de Cali did that back in the day when the Cartel owned the team and that ruined the promising careers of many young players

Re: 2013-14 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
That's kinda incorrect. Of course that's coming from a 60 fan, though.
Bayern do it to improve the depth in their squad, not to take players away from other teams.
With the exception of maybe Jansen none of these players were rated that high anyway. None of those could've ever ended up being a top 5 player on a CL team.
Schlaudraff, Baumjohann, Petersen, Rau...those are players any club can get out of their youth system if they only have a semi-decent youth academy. Definitely no game changers that would've shifted the momentum against Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich has produced a lot of players for opposing teams....whether it's Hummels, Misimovic, Trochowski, Can, Steinhöfer or Kraft.
Not even counting the garbage ones like Lell, Rensing, Ottl or Ekici who were starters on some Bundesliga clubs for a long time.
I'm not even mad that Bayern got Kirchhoff from us in summer. In fact, I'm even a bit glad we got rid of him and landed Geis from Fürth. Kinda bad that we didn't get a transfer fee for Kirchhoff but we are not missing him on the pitch at all. Johannes Geis will be 10 times the defensive midfielder Kirchhoff will ever be. Dude has so much more potential than Kirchhoff.

My opinion might be a little biased, but Schlaudraff (06/07) and Rau (02/03) had both already played for the German national team, before they transferred to Bayern and were not able to improve once they arrived.
Transfers for depth are buying players like Butt, Starke or Ismael. Average players, not young talents.

Anyone know if Giulio Donati is doing well so far? I loved that kid but Inter didn't think he was worth much apparently

What is wrong with buying young talents instead of average players to fill the bench?
If I was a coach I would rather have a young guy that I can develop instead of an old guy who is going to retire soon and regress for the rest of his career.
I think it's more the players fault than Bayern Munich's fault. Gotta ask why young players like Peteresen go from Cottbus to Bayern instead of establishing in the Bundesliga first. Same with Weiser from Cologne.

He has managed to outperform Roberto Hilbert by a decent margin (which doesn't say much tbh since Hilbert is terrible).
However, there are rumors that Leverkusen is very much interested in Sebastian Jung from Eintracht Frankfurt so I can't tell you whether they really are 100% happy with him so far or not.
I like him, even if he doesn't always make the right decision he is at least trying to be very active.

thanks. he never got much of a chance to play in Serie A, but mostly due to his work rate he was a standout for the u21s. definitely has a long way to go but I'm happy to hear he's doing ok on a team that is having a great year

Overall, I'd say he's one of the best right backs in the league. Leverkusen's best transfer this season. Effort and work rate are amazing. As someone who is following the Serie A pretty closely I'd say he could be the 2nd option behind Abate for the Squadra Azzurra. Could!

Those are horrible examples. Baumjohann isn't even real BL talent, and Schlaudraff, Petersen and Jansen are mediocre players on mediocre teams. Let's not act like they wasted their prime at Bayern, they only stayed for 1-2 seasons, and were never signed by any other elite teams afterwards.
It wasn't some kind of weird strategy to keep them away from other teams, it was just poor scouting by Bayern. They made a lot of poor decisions in the past, see Breno, Sosa, dos Santos, Oddo, Pranjic, Tymo (was never a valuable player for Bayern), they paid Luca Toni €10m/year for 1 1/2 good seasons, hell, even Lell and Ottl were regular players for Bayern not too long ago. Do you know what kind of back four Bayern fielded against Barca at Camp Nou in 2009? Lell-Demichelis-Breno-Oddo... lol, Lell vs Messi (right winger at the time, and Lell wasn't/isn't even a left-back, double lol). Horrible squad building!
This uber team that we see now is so far away from those 2008, 2009 squads... it's not even funny.
Wake up, girl. I wanna go surfing.

For the purchasing team nothing. But players that play for the national team are "shared property" of the entire country and it should be in everyone interest to see them grow and improve and not rot on Bayern's bench. So essentially Bayern is putting their own interest over the rest of the nations.
Also, I want the Bundesliga to stay exciting, which unfortunately has become a thing of the past, because Bayern only ever buy players from their competitors. When they only shop "internally", the quality of the league remains the same, while the parity decreases. When they buy players like Robben, Ribery or Thiago, the league as a whole becomes more attractive, which I am all for. Unfortunately, they continue to weaken Dortmund (Lewandowski, Götze), Schalke (Neuer), Leverkusen (Ballack, Zé Roberto), Bremen (Pizarro, Frings), Stuttgart (Gomez) year in and year out, until they are the best in the league...
I should probably not continue to post on this board. Bayern and their league-crippling practices, self-righteous managers, fair-weather fans and arrogant behavior really grind my gears... And that is without even mentioning the damage they and their arena have caused my favorite team.

Re: 2013-14 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
Lewandowski is a Bayern player? Didn't know that.
Götze left Dortmund, yeah. But this has nothing to do with Bayern. This is about Dortmund. Sahin and Barrios left in 2011. Kagawa left in 2012. Lewandowski will leave in 2014 (has nothing to do with Bayern, he just doesn't want to stay). Hummels is flirting with Barca. Several rumours about Gündogan, only a matter of time til he'll leave.
Gomez left Stuttgart - yeah, but so did Khedira. And Boateng and Kompany left Hamburg. And Diego and Özil left Bremen. You know why? Not because of Bayern, but because of the Stuttgarts, Hamburgs and Bremens in this world. Because they want to play for better teams.
What about Mainz in 2011? Great team. Then Holtby and Fuchs left to Schalke, and Schürrle to Leverkusen. And then they sucked, lost in the EL qualification.
What about Gladbach in 2012? Great team. Then Dante left, Neustädter left, ... and Reus left. And then they sucked. Lost in the CL qualification.
What about Freiburg in 2013. Great team. Then several players left, and they sucked in the EL and will probably get relegated.
The funny thing is that all this is coming from a 1860 fan. Where have your Benders and Leitners gone? To Bayern? I don't think so. 1860 could easily be a BL team if it weren't for the Leverkusens and Dortmunds in this world. Haha, think about that, and then go and tell it to ... Mr Ismaik.

thanks. I have been hoping he gets a call up. Italy are definitely thin at right back with Maggio getting old and Abate often injured

Calm down man.
It's known in Germany that Bayern does buy players from contenders to weaken the competition.
That's not fun for those other teams but nothing you can do a thing about it, cause Bayern's earned all that money for the last four decades and is now able to spend it as they wish.
Also, you can't fault the players electing to join Bayern. cause they either make it there and become international regulars while earning a boatload of money or they don't and are able to join teams in that Stuttgart, Gladbach, Leverkusen etc. range after a season or two at Bayern.
BTW: It's also not the fault of those teams losing the players, because they've got some financial restrictions and can only pay so much, which won't enable them to compete with Bayern, Real, Barca or all those english teams.
Also, I don't agree with Gladbach "sucking" after losing those three players. We finished 8th in the league, had some bad luck in that CL qualification and made it to the last 32 of the europa league. All that after losing our best scorer, saviest midfielder and one of the best center backs of the Bundesliga.
I mean, even Bayern would've some trouble replacing three key positions like that and they've got the most money and best squad of the league.
On a side note:
It seems like my team, Gladbach, will sign US international Fabien Johnson on a free transfer next summer. Wouldn't be bad, cause he can play a couple positions and would help mostly at the lb and rb positions.
