Grizzlies Propose Bayless-Meeks Deal To Lakers
December 24 at 1:15pm CST By Chuck Myron

The Grizzlies are “clearly looking to shake up their roster,” writes Bleacher Report’s Ric Bucher, who hears from a Lakers source that Memphis offered Jerryd Bayless in return for Jodie Meeks. Such a trade wouldn’t work under the NBA’s salary-matching rules, which would require the Lakers to put additional outgoing salary into the deal to come closer to the $3.135MM Bayless makes this season. Still, the proposal appears to indicate changes could be on the way for the disappointing 12-15 Grizzlies.

Memphis has added James Johnson and Seth Curry in recent days to bolster an injury-depleted roster that’s enduring the long-term absences of Marc Gasol and Quincy Pondexter. It appears the Grizzlies have no interest in a rumored trade that would send Zach Randolph to the Pelicans, Bucher says, though a report yesterday indicated that Memphis might be willing to move Randolph for the right offer.

The Lakers have had their own share of injury troubles, particularly among their point guards, and adding Bayless would help them shore up that position. He’s also a free agent after this season, so he wouldn’t clog up L.A.’s cap space this summer. Still, it doesn’t sound as though the Grizzlies’ proposal has gained any traction.

I would do it if we had another coach. Dantoni would ruin Randolph and Bayless won't get playing time. I really think it starts with firing Coach D before we do a deal. Because if we don't fire Dantoni we have to do moves to fit Dantoni's offense instead of what fits with our current roster. Which is what we did this off-season

In a heartbeat !

But if it's Bayless for Meeks and something else then hell no, we get hosed in that deal. Bayless is an exact clone of Meeks to begin with, he just finishes a little better at the rim is the only difference.

Heck no I rate Bayless though why trade a player who's been playing his heart out & doing a fine job for this club. I'd be focused on resigning Meeks not trading him. Avoid please!

Don't want Z-bo contract (and him) and rather pass on Bayless.

Rather have Meeks, and to stay as far away from ZBo as possible.

The Lakers shouldn't be interested in being 1st round playoff fodder.

I don't really care about any of this...

EXCEPT, some of us told you all to be patient, that teams would start approaching us closer to the trade deadline... I think this is just the beginning, and it will be intriguing to see what happens...

Basically I view this team as a blank slate... Our entire starting lineup needs to drastically improve so I'm not sure what we need to do first. So I'm leaving it up to the FO and sitting back and watching what happens next...

I don't even think you'd get that done in NBA 2K14. The Grizzlies would only trade for Pau with the intent of pairing him with Marc and seeing how far the brotherly tandem can take them with Conley.

Bayless for Meeks? **** DAT! (Kendrick's voice). What good would that do for the Lakers? None.

Never been a fan of Bayless' game. Pass.

Now teams want to take what we have and give nothing back. Lakers need to add another first round pick and a few more in the years coming up. Only way to rebuild with the players we know we will get the max out. No more picks for old useless players. Yes Nash you are useless. Mitch does another trade like that, your fired.

Would trade Meeks in a heartbeat .....

Last year.

Fact is, Meeks has been a big component in our running game this year. And he dam tries his best in defense. I love that kind of heart and I've become a big fan of his. Want him a laker

If we trade Meeks, a first round pick must be coming to LA. No more junk.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
