I completely agree. Cutler didn't help... but this game was out of hand before our offense even got its fourth snap. By the time we got our third set of downs it was already 21-0 and we were in highly predictable mode. This defense was EMBARRASSINGLY bad. They almost had 300 rush yards... we couldn't stop ANYONE. Also, on offense, don't whitewash how bad the OL was and Forte. I'm a huge Forte fan, but he couldn't pick up a blitz to save his life and he was ineffective running the ball almost the entire game.

Unlike what we're used to in a big Bears blowout loss, the turning point was not a pick six (though there was one late in the game) but it was Hester's big fumble. That was when the wheels absolutely came off.

At this point, I'm completely ambivalent about Cutler. If we cut him loose so we could use the money on defense, I'm game. If we re-sign him it has to be discounted for his durability issues and lapses in decision making. I don't want the Bears to look at Romo, Stafford and Eli Manning as excuses to overpay Jay.

Obviously can't blame Jay directly but if he was sharper to start with--maybe we at least have 10 pts at half.
Over/underthowing , not hitting guys in stride, slow decision making, locking in to early and then getting sacked. That you can blame him for.

I just don't see how you can see him as close to worth it for the bears to franchise tag or pay what his market will be. Trestmans offense and our receivers mean we can take a journeyman or young gun and probably do about 90% at good for a fraction of the cost.

We have so much work on the defense to do--Jay ain't worth it. And pure talent wise I'm luke warm on Jay in any case--to many bad decisions. Looking around the league it seems that you can get young guy not a first pick in the draft that can end up begin way better than Jay in any case--and with Jay's picks--it might only take 1-2 years to get there.

Meantime get a game manager backup who trestman can probably get to play his best season ever.

The only "real" wrong thing the Bears can do here is sign Jay to a long term contract. (unless he wins a playoff game or two while lighting it up)

Whatever else the Bears do, I can get behind it. I wouldn't be ecstatic if they tagged him, but I can see Trestman wanting to have one more year with Cutler.

Week 17 and potentially the playoffs can change my mind, but right now I'm heavily leaning towards wanting to get rid of Cutler.

The only problem is where are we gonna find another qb unless ur ready to roll with mccown as an opening day starter? It could work but he is 35 so its a stop gap solution and bmarsh will not be happy.
Right now jay for about 10 mill per season sounds fair. 15 mil per , mccowns performance knocked that out of the window because we know we dont have to pay someone that much for production when we were getting production with a vet minimum guy.

We know bmarsh will not be happy to lose cutler. We will have to get rid of him too then. Not sure the bears are ready to do that, hence the franchise tag which makes more sense in this scenario than it did for Melton which just seemed bonehead.

This is a concern for me too.. however do we really know that he'll be a malcontent if Cutler leaves? I brought this up earlier and others don't think so. If we pay him what he's worth, he'll stay.

I just haven't seen enough good things out of Cutler for me to want him signed to a big, long term contract. Perhaps I'm spoiled by all the great looking young QBs out there, but I'd much rather go that direction and stick with McCown short term, especially if Marshall will stick around without Cutler.

Marshall is not gonna complain because hes in a prime market and endorsement money is there for the taking. If Jay does not get it done Sunday what could Marshall possibly be upset about ?
