GT: Rockets vs. Spurs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Wed Dec 25, 2013 3:57 am

When: 8:00 PM ET, December 25, 2013
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

Should be another tough one for against the Rockets. Containing Howard and solid bench play are going to be the keys to this one.

Go Spurs and happy holidays everyone.

Merry Christmas, LOL!

Spurs win a close one. Duncan forces Howard to make the same sour milk face that is on DK's sig.

Since the losses are starting to pile up, guess it's time to criticize the team right?

If the past 2 years is any indication, it's that team that hurts us most is the one that has strong rim protection. Because having rim protection means they can stay home on our shooters and let Parker be challanged by their shotblocker. If they can couple that rim protection with strong individual defense on Parker, that's our krpytonite.

Tonight is a another example of that. Lin defended Parker incredibly well. Howard affected numerous shots around the basket.

Offensively, our team looks great againts poor/average defensive teams. But good defensive teams that can do those stuff I said turns our offense into midrange jumpers. They ran our shooters off the 3 point line and turn it into a midrange jumper. When Parker can't get to the rim, it turns into a midrange jumper. Nearly all of Duncan's shots are midrange jumpers now.

And yes, the midrange area is the least efficient shot in the game.

We really do need a different dimension in our offense. It's beautiful to watch againts bad defenses, but it is too reliant on Parker being able to get to the rim. Otherwise, it's just jumpers for the whole game. A low post game can be nice. Post Kawhi more often. God I really wish Kawhi work on posting up this summer. Make him be great at one facet of his offensive game first.

Defensively, I wish we get more athletic next year and have some rim protection. I'd really like for this team to have better rim protection. Duncan gets his fair shake of blocks but IMO guys don't look scared going to the rim againts us. It's as if they don't think they'll get blocked by Duncan, and that's why they get blocked. I'm seeing guys like Ibaka and Dwight using their athleticism and shotblocking and have guys start rushing shots and all, Duncan doesn't seem to have that effect on people. I want more shotblocking please.

Our defense is really frustrating me. This is the 2nd time in a week we've given up 40 points in a quarter at home! Pop was pissed after the game. I was happy to see that. We played like soft sissys tonight

That first quarter was crazy though. Houston was just hot, particularly Chandler Parsons.. I mean he was 4-4 from 3 point line, and two of his threes were from 32 feet. You weren't gonna defend him at that distance unless he's Kevin Durant.

But I agree, the defense frustrates me too. I'm just saying I don't blame it solely on the 40 point first quarter. That was just crazy. They were' 6-8 from 3 point line on the first period.

It's been a long, tough stretch for this team. Popovich even admitted that he cant remember the last time the team had even practiced (It was back in mid-November)because of the schedule the last month or so. The team looks a little sloppy and burnt out to me at this point. I'm still not too worried because everyone is still trying to figure themselves out. Miami lost big to Detroit at home, OKC just lost to the Raptors at home, Indiana just lost to Detroit at home, Houston and Golden State can still lose to most anyone on any night. The Blazers are playing great but they still have a ton to prove.
The rodeo road trip is usually a good measurement of how good we are. I'm really not going to panic until then, but it's coming fast.
