Winning on the Road

Post#1 » by hands11 » Sun Dec 22, 2013 5:42 pm

When is the last time the Wizards won 3 in a row on the road back to back to back ?

A quick scan says is been forever.

I made it to 2002 and didn't see any time they did that. I made it past the last two playoff seasons and saw nothing.

3 road win in a row maybe. But not on back to back to back games.

A win against MIN on the road would be historic. Might be 20 or more years since they won 4 in a row back to back on the road.

--

Sorting the East by road win record is interesting.

Indy and Miami you would expect to be over .500, but TOR, CHA and DET are also .500 or better. Winning at .500 or better is usually a sign of a playoff team. Its kind of amazing how bad those 3 have been at home. TOR is 4-8 at home. Ouch. But in those Ls are two against MIA, one against POR and one against SA.

I think its going to be a real battle in the East. ATL is pulling away from the pack but the Wizard are on a 3-0 road keeping pace even if they are behind them.

Just keep winning. Hopefully we are about to go on a run with the line ups setting in.

Didn't we have a crazy west coast road trip with Arenas leading the way? 5 in a row or something?

It looks like there were several occasions during the Arenas era when we won 3 consecutive road games, but there was a home game or two in the middle of the streak (that we won too).

I don't see a streak of us winning 3 games in a row that all happened to be on the road. But that's mostly that's just a quirk of scheduling. The fact is, 3-game road trips are somewhat rare. During the 4 full seasons where Arenas played and we were winning 41+ games a year, there were only 14 instances where we played 3 or more road games in a row.

I remember a series of games where the Wizards were being called the "Streak Busters." We were taking down all the league's heavyweights.

What year ? I didn't see it. But I just glanced though real fast. Something could have slipped by.

Not sure I would call 4 sets or 3 or more back to back to back road games a year ... rare.

Sounds like a healthy amount for a year. What seems to be rare is the Wizards winning 3 of them in a row. Been 10 years min. Might be a good bit more then that. Not sure since I stopped looking at 10. Winning 3 road games in a row with no home game isn't all that easy. Helps that they were East coast teams. That would be really impressive if it was a West coast swing.

We have 4 sets of games liket that this year. Some 3 games some 4 games.

Anyway. I found that interesting so I wanted to point it out to the board. Seems like a sign of progress to me.

Yeah I remember when we put to end some pretty significant streaks, I think Dallas' streak that year was one of them.

I think i remember the stretch you're talking about. Was that when Gil had 60 at LA and 54 at Phx a few nights later? Iirc, we lost a game in between LA and Phx.

Yup to the Nuggets who had a bunch of players suspended after a brawl against the Knicks.

Wiz had a 3+ game road win streak in 2012: Chicago, Miami, Cleveland. It was part of the 6 game winning streak to end the season when teams were resting up for the playoffs.

In 06-07, they ended Mav's 12 game streak and ended Suns' 15 game streak (Arenas dropped 54). Maybe stopped some other, shorter streaks too. They also had three 3-game road winning streaks, but not in consecutive games.

Looking for when was the last time they did it back to back to back. All road games. No home games in between.

Wow. Wizards are one road win away from tying last years road win record.

IN 2001, they beat Rockets, Mavs, and Grizzlies in consecutive games, all on the road. In 1973, they beat the Blazers, Sonics, Suns, and Lakers in consecutive games, all on the road, then beat the Sixers in Hershey Pennsylvania and Sonics in College Park (when the Bullets were in Baltimore). BR has these last two as neutral sites, but you could make a case for the Sixers game being a Sixers home game. Regardless, if the Wizards beat the Wolves, it'll be the first such streak in over 30 years.

Thanks.

Wow. 12 years. Thats a long time. I wonder how often other teams are able to achieve this.

Agreed. And I wonder in how many of those instances none of the games were back to back to back and all of the games were against teams below .500. That being said, the Wizards winning on the road has been impressive lately given that is improvement of things over the past few years.

The Spurs won 5 consecutive games (all on the road) twice last year, along with one streak of 3 in a row. The Wizards finally winning 3 in a row is a good sign.

Any talk of "winning" is a jinx, thus perpetual pessimists are good luck charms.

Huh. I was watching the NBA highlights and they said they did it in 2011. Maybe they were high?

Maybe they were high, but if they were talking about the 2011-2012 season, there were three consecutive road wins toward the end of that season. The difference here is we've been taking about three consecutive wins that are on the road (uninterrupted by any home games), not three consecutive road wins (with any number of home games in between). If they win in Minnesota, that will bring the streak to four.
