Jenkins facing nerve pain in leg

Post#1 » by parson » Fri Dec 27, 2013 4:19 pm

Just a little piece from Chris Vivlamore's interview:
Q. Is it the same injury to your back?

A. My back is fine. It’s a pain going down my leg. It’s irritating. It’s uncomfortable. I’m dealing with that. I’ll probably get another epidural soon. I’m weighing my options on what I need to do to eliminate this thing forever. It’s been too long. It’s been preventing me from playing the way I need to be playing. I’m trying to play on it, play through it. It’s time to just get it out of the way forever. My agent, Billy Duffy, and the team, (general manager) Danny Ferry, are working on whatever they have to do to end this thing forever.

My back feels great. It’s just the pain going down my leg. It’s a nerve. That is not a good feeling at all. It’s down my leg and I can feel it when I stand up or bend down. I had it once already this year but I took a medicine pack and it went away. It came back on me. Hopefully, this is the last time I have to deal with this.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

I have a lingering pain in my @ss, I have named it Budenholzer.... It keeps me from playing. And I can't seem to shake it.

This interview scared me much more than simply Coach Bud pushing Jenkins though. The fact that he's apparently already had (at least) one epidural and is getting another is not a good sign. One guy over @ peachtreehoops was speculating that it's a disc injury and those are scary - like never truly recover type of scary.

My attitude now with Jenkins is to get healthy 1st then basketball 2nd. If he tries to push through, he'll only hurt his basketball chances further.

Jenkins Stats in Preseason game 1:

-5/7 from the field with 13 points
-1/2 from the 3
- 2 assists & 1 steal

Jenkins Stats in Presason game 2:

-5/6 from the field with 15 points
-2/3 from the 3
- 1 assist & 1 steal

Do you guys think Jenkins has earned his spot as our backup SG in pre-season play?

Personally I would still like to see how Bazemore plays in preseason first but Jenkins is looking really good!

If JJ2 is playing as well in practice as he is in these pre-season games, then yes. I do believe he has earned the backup spot at SG. We all knew Jenkins could shoot the 3 ball; the question was whether he could develop the rst of his game to become an effective slasher and passable defender. It's still early, but the improvement in both of those aspects has been so impressive, it makes me re-think his role with the team going forward.

I once pondered if he could be the lead option on offense, similar to Reggie Miller back in the 90s. I have since cooled on THAT optimism, but can now see him playing an important role going forward, similar to Danny Green.

Jenkins is younger than Bazemore, and I think most NBA personnel men would agree has a higher ceiling.
If both players are equal, I always advocate going with the younger, homegrown option.

I also believe Dennis and JJ2 complement each other perfectly. Their games are yin and yang, and 5 years from now I am intrigued by the thought of the two of them as our starting back court.

I saw s fall he took at preseason game 1. It took him a min to get up and he walked with a limp once he got up... We need him healthy, he has to fill Lou's role of the bench
