Russle out till ASB

Post#1 » by Podirk » Fri Dec 27, 2013 8:41 pm

Knee scope on some recent swelling...but rest easy Thunder nation.

More time for Reg, Lamb, and Jones will most likely come of this. (along with Fish...but you give some you take some)

He just threw out a triple double in 3.5 qtrs....

What trade would that be??

They are currently playing some of the best basketball in the NBA. Russ' absense will allow Reggie, Lamb, and possilbly Jones to get more time.

Thunder don't have many trad-able assets that they would be willing to give up... Maybe Perk Thabo PJIII...they have possibly 2 firsts this year, a couple stash players, a couple players that could be cut...but who would be picked up. Thunder also aren't going to bring anyone in that would take long term cap space or put them in the tax this year.

I don't see a trade out there that puts the Thunder where they want to be...and it is really just a fill in for the next 27 games.

Will probably be more than 27 games, Presti said that after ASB does not mean 1st game after ASB. We should sign Barbosa, it's a no brainer.

Sucks for Westbrook, he seemed to be back in his grove lately. I guess better now than later, plenty of time for him to get back in shape before the playoffs barring any more set backs.

As far as roster changes obviously Jackson ends up around 36 mins a game and Lamb as well as Fisher(sadly) seeing a sizeable increase as well. Don't think OKC makes a trade but signs a d leaguer to multiple 10 day contracts, sucks Seth Curry and Marshall just got picked up in the past couple weeks. Spurs have some pretty good backup pgs expiring this year but I doubt they trade them to OKC for anything short of a first.

Is this just a knee swelling thing caused by his quicker than expected return.

If it is he should be fine athletically if he gives it full time to recover.

As long as they dont cut his meniscus out he'll be fine.

But dont tell that the posters on the general board thread, according to them westbrook will be a shell of himself and be chronically injured before retiring in the next two years like he' s brandon roy.

My 2 cents is that he will be back in good shape for the playoffs

Brandon Roy also started as a "minor" meniscus tear during the playoffs. Followed by arthroscopic surgery on the same knee. Not saying they WILL be the same, but the idea that this is not a problem is asinine. We gotta hope for the best.

Difference is Roys knees were in question before he was even drafted.

Not saying its not a worry, because of course injuries are a big problem but I see hear people saying

" he'll never be the same, " , " what a shame he could have had a nice career " , " they need to trade westbrook for a non-chronically injured pg, or else kevin durant
will leave" , " once his athleticism is gone he'll be a rich man's raymond felton"

A bunch of overreactionary posting here that is some trolling and some people freaking out because of other players.

Im not saying he will be become an often injured player or that it wont happen but it is silly its almost now every injury that happens you'll have someone make a thread about how they're an injury risk.

Westbrook has been injured alot but its important to note how extremely healthy he was and how he took the safe procedure instead of the procedure wade took and he hasnt retore it since beverley cheap-shotted him, the first one was because of faulty stitching ans the second was because of swelling.

Im sorry if I am too positive.

I think his "iron man" conduct was leading to this. I can't even count how many times he must have played through injuries throughout his carrer.

I honestly think this is a Brandon Roy situation. I think his knee is irreparable and its going to continue to swell more and more as he tries to play on it.

I don't think its the same. Roy actually had pain in the knee for one thing, also he had the meniscus removed I believe instead of repaired, which is what Russ did so he could be better long term. Westbrook even said this time he had no idea it was injured, it was a routine check up that showed the swelling. Roy's knees actually hurt from all I've read.

Yeah, but three surgeries in less than one year is always a concern. Hope he and the Thunder doesn't force a return sooner than he should. Thunder coaching staff should really can make orientations towards him playing his athleticism less than he's been.

There's really nothing to support that, this was done as a precaution to keep his knees intact long term, Roy's were all just to make it so he could play.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

It wasn't just a precaution, it was necessary. His knees wouldn't stop swelling. The surgeon botched the initial surgery, and unfortunately this is going to be problematic for Russ and his future.

There's no actual indication it was "botched" other than people who aren't doctors speculating that to be true. There's honestly no evidence that this is going to be a career ending type of issue, I've been trying to read up on it, and its just an issue with the knee that isn't career threatening, but seems more preventative.

i've heard most of this information from people with first hand knowledge of this situation.

Care to share any info? Don't want to sound like I'm calling you out b/c I'm not :D Just want to know as much as possible, as this team is tough to watch right now and I don't want to get my hopes up if they're going to be stuck in this situation.
