It probably takes a healthy Kobe and Nash for the Lakers to go for it, but it might not be a bad move. I also figure that Kaman or Hill has to be added to the deal, so it would add some front court depth also. If the Wizards are only getting Kaman, I would insist on moving Maynor in the deal.
Ariza + Maynor + Temple for Meeks + Farmar + Blake + Kaman
PG - Wall/Farmar/Blake
SG - Beal/Meeks/Rice
SF - Webster/Porter/Singleton
PF - Booker/Nene/Vesely/Harrington
C - Gortat/Kaman/Seraphin
I would throw in a future second round pick to sweeten the deal. I doubt the Lakers would give up Hill so that's the best I can come up with. I'd cut Harrington at that point. Added Booker into the starting lineup since that's what the team is rolling with right now.
But the 2nd unit is strong.
I wouldn't move Ariza unless Hill is coming back. Farmar is nice, but he's only going to be here for a season and then could bounce. Meeks is an after thought, as is Kaman. Steve blake is old and injured. We're giving up one damn good starter for one good backup PG basically...although addition by subtraction with maynor is appealing I'd rather hold out on something we "can't turn down."
Thing is you run into the same problem, do you pay Hill? What is he worth? Do you want money tied up into Gortat, Nene, Booker, and Hill?
I was reading the wiretap this morning regarding the Pacers and Lance Stephenson. It looks like the Pacers are going to go over the luxury tax next season unless they clear some salary.
This 3 way/Billy King/Lyrical Rico special:
Pacers get: Steve Blake, Chris Singleton
Lakers get: Trevor Ariza, CJ Watson
Wizards get: Chris Copeland, Chris Kaman, Jodie Meeks, Jordan Farmar
Pacers get out of Copeland's and Watson's contract next year (saves them about $5 mil total), Lakers get a backup point guard and the hope of pairing Ariza and a re-signed Gasol w/Kobe. Wizards get a backup center, solid back up point guard and shooting guard, and protection at the 3 w/Copeland. It also allows the Pacers to sign Stephenson w/out going over the tax. That George Hill contract looks terrible now.
