I'm not Jay's biggest fan, I just don't think McCown is the answer either.

I just don't think the answer is elite QB or bust. The type of QB that blumeany is talking about, there is only 4 to 5 of those available in this league. Brady, P. Manning, Rodgers, Brees for example.

Cutler is in that next tier with guys like Dalton, Stafford, Romo, Ryan ect. He has elite talent like those guys, but makes his mistakes, just like those guys do. They are good starting level QB's though.

I have no doubt if Cutler was healthy, he would produce the same numbers he was producing earlier this season. But again, health is the key word. That is the first thing Emery should bring up when negotiating a contract with Cutler and his agent.

Wrong. Hester and peppers sure.

You don't let starting qbs go for nothing. Obviously he isn't worth 17 million, but you bring him back on a smaller deal.

The defense is in such need of upgrades that Cutler will have to take a pay cut if he stays. If he won't then Josh McCown can run the team, and run it well, maybe even better than Cutler. Not that Jay is a bad quarterback, but McCown just seems to make fewer mistakes and doesn't always padlock on Brandon Marshall. McCown was also solid in 2011 when he too over as well, so I don't think 2013 is a fluke.

In short, do we need to pay Cutler $15+ million a year over five-six years to be the QB, or can McCown and another back-up type (Tebow?) hold down the fort while Trestman develops a rookie QB? I think the answer is no. Give McCown a three-year deal. Draft a good QB. See if Michael Bush and Earl Bennett can fetch pics in a trade.

The Bears need two new safeties, Peppers appears to be in decline (and should be asked to take a pay cut or the Bears need to move on to someone else), Tillman and Briggs are getting older, and defensive tackle is a weakness as well.

I don't thin the Bears can afford Jay Cutler, particularly given the performance of Josh McCown.
