Closed Door Meeting, Dantoni and Kupchak after Philly lost

Post#1 » by leeprettyp » Mon Dec 30, 2013 6:04 am

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing 10m
D'Antoni comes out of postgame news conference and into a closed-door meeting in his office with Mitch Kupchak.

Is it getting to the breaking point fellas????? Or is this happening before a trade goes down. Something big is in the works here. Think Jim and Mitch have already given Mike D their backing and confidence so I dont believe they'd need to reconfirm that with him

Here's how the convo probably went though.

MDA: Mitch it's tough with these injuries. Why did you sign Troy Murphy all those years ago? He cursed this team!
Mitch: Silence! The tank is officially on. EMBIID!

Is there such a thing as an open door meeting?

I hope its nothing, firing a coach makes no sense at this point if that' even a thought.

You can't really blame MDA for having a season with basically NO Kobe, a soft Gasol as usual, 3 pg's go down, now Mr x < It's a tough season and I doubt MDA gets fired for it, he will ride out the year - ok maybe blame the pg's injury's on MDA but that's about it

I can't think of a single move right now that would make a significant difference in how this season is going...

Only reason to fire MDA is if a core player was coming that hated him... Which seems like a total improbability on a lot of levels.

No way MDA is being fired. He's without the teams best 3 players and yet they are still competitive in every game. There's no coach in the NBA that could do better with what we've currently got. And I say this while not liking MDA as a coach myself.

It is one of those season that no one ever thinks will happen. They need to part ways with Nash, not seeing any future there. This franchise will not be saved by a 41 year old point guard coming off many injuries.

I get this part but I'mma roll with what Ding tweets over Pincus anyday. Now what was said in there nobody knows. Maybe about Gasol not playing these last couple of games? I get you guys want to defend Mike D. But his style of basketball won't work for us in the longterm, if you guys are fans of us bottoming out wouldn't make sense to fire this guy now? And just allow Rambis to finish out the year and allow these guys to start learning the triangle offense now. We'll probably only be able to keep a couple guys anyway from this roster. Dantoni chuck up a shot and 3 basketball anybody isn't Lakers basketball simple as that. He'll never be a coach who emphasizes the importance of defense over offense (its just not in him). Every year he's coach almost his perimeter playmakers always end up hurt from heavy mins and to having to carry the most of the burden running his offense (Lin, Kobe, Nash, Blake, Farmar) Catching the theme here? Even in the longrun Phil doesnt come back or cant get over the way Jim dogged him and Jeanie... We can still bring in a Phil disciple to coach us.

I'm sorry fellas you can continue to cheer for Mike D and enjoy this brand of basketball.. Me? i absolutely despise it and hate how we've gone away from the style that brought us championships. If we're committing ourselves to Kobe and another prime free agent this offseason or next then Mike D. isnt the right head coach for superstars in the league. I'm sorry its the truth. He can get the most of role players because they love playing in a system that allows them to just chuck up shots like their the go to guy

Mike D basketball is a perfect fit for this team and considering our injuries we've definitely been overachieving so far. All the players love him and go out hard to compete, the roster just isn't good enough.

Now, if we were healthy, Kobe would probably have abandoned D'Antoni ball by himself, similarly to last year. But, they're both injured, so there's no reason to knock on MDA's play style at the moment.

I agree with every point in your post with the possible exception of the very first sentence. I do think it's unlikely MDA gets fired but MDA might be a victim of his own success. Being a middling team is the worst thing in this league and somehow MDA manages to get this group of scrubs to overachieve almost to the level of being middling. Let MDA go and bring in Mike Dunleavy or whoever and let's lose every game the rest of the way. Let Pau and Kobe get better, lol e can dream can't we?, draft Wiggins and get ready for 2014. :)

Ok realistically Wiggins will never wear a Lakers uniform but there are other good players in the upcoming draft a team could be built around.

We haven't won a game without Pau this season, yet when he plays his on/off court numbers are abysmal.
