nfl's black monday - coach firings
its that time of year again and we have three already gone
- mike shanahan
- leslie frazier
- rob chudzinski
rob only had one year with the browns, and considering everything i thought they did pretty well (if hoyer stayed healthy maybe they finish better)
anyone else going to get the axe? who are some candidates to replace those already gone?

Pretty shocked that Chud got the axe. I mean they trade away the running back(great trade by the way), but still the top back was McGahee. They had three different starting QB's. I'm surprised they didn't give him a chance to prove himself.

lol, whooopsie!
I saw Icness on Twitter write that Brian Kelly may get an interview with Detroit. I just saw now on Rotoworld, Bobby Stoops is looking to make the leap.
Rotating chairs?

Re: nfl's black monday - coach firings
I think Bob Stoops would be an absolutely awful pro hire. Same goes for Brian Kelly.
What I'm really looking forward to is the, "Will Jon Gruden/Bill Cowher leave cushy network jobs for another coaching gig?" nonsense.
Though... Wouldn't it be something if the Bucs reached out to Gruden and tried to get the magic back?

I like the hire by Tampa. Lovie with a solid coordinator team of Tedford/Marinelli. If the Bucs can add a couple pieces, I could see them being half decent next year.

Re: nfl's black monday - coach firings
I'm curious as to why you think Kelly would be a bad NFL coach. I'm not arguing, I just don't know much about his coaching style. I know he absolutely dominated at Grand Valley State, helped CMU turn around quickly, got the Cincinnati Bearcats to the 3rd ranked team in the country (!!!) and has helped Notre Dame return to national prominence. Everything he's touched in college has turned to gold (until he's run to greener pastures a la Nick Saban).
Obviously, being a great college coach doesn't always equate to pro success (See: Saban, Spurrier)...I'm just curious as to whether you have any specific insight on why you think Kelly would fail.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Add Mike Munchak to the axe list.
I don't like that move, I think Mike is a very good coach.

Eh, they got a lot to work on, namely getting a qb worth a sh*t.
Had no clue he was with the organization so long

Re: nfl's black monday - coach firings
Was on vacay so late chiming in, but Mike Shanahan deserved to go. 40 losses in four years, a 3-6 stretch in every season, losing 8 games in a row(something even Spurrier and Zorn didn't do)yeah, you deserve to go. Everyone brings up capgate but capgate doesn't excuse the bad coaching on Sundays, and Shanny himself made matters worse with certain acquisitions(McNabb, Josh Morgan, Jamaal Brown).
I'm glad we're interviewing some of the up and coming coordinators. We've never hired a coach under the age of 55 in the Snyder era. I want someone young and up and coming. I like Jay Gruden and Darrell Bevell.

I like the hire. I don't love it, not overwhelmed or anything, but really there were no must have candidates out there.
His offense was pretty good in Cincinatti this year. He squeezed out a 35+ TD season out of Andy Dalton who is basically the next Rex Grossman. There is talent on Cincy's offense but other then AJ Green they were mostly mid round picks that Gruden coached up and got the most out of.
I'm hopeful he can maximize RG3 the way he did with Dalton. I don't like that he's keeping Jim Haslett AKA Jim Haslett them score as Defensive Coordinator though.

Re: nfl's black monday - coach firings
well if want your head coach to turn your qb into andy dalton, you have lower standards than i do.
dalton actually didn't improve from last year, his accuracy is down and interceptions are up, they are just heaving the ball up more often knowing they have a very talented wr corp which inflates dalton's stats. redskins don't have that receiving talent.
