1. Visit http://images.google.com
2. Search for Chris Conte
3. Enjoy many pictures of Conte in the background of some exciting offensive plays.

1. Gave up a touchdown on a clear pick (or at least a bat down) he should have had.

2. Whiffed on numerous tackling opportunities that resulted in big gains.

3. Decided to try and ballhawk on the Packers' last play and picked the wrong guy, allowing Cobb to run unabated to the endzone. Then, just sat there as it happened. That gave up the winning score.

So...yeah. :D

He was mediocre all season.
I don't fault him for missing the pick really. If only he could have at least knocked it down, but still.
The last play might not have been his fault. Someone pointed out that Bowman was supposed to be covering deep.
But, even covering that, he's been a reason our defense has been awful all season.

1. That non pick/bat down was mostly luck for the packers, but yes he should have knocked it down.
2. That game winning TD wasn't his fault at all. If you watch the play again he has nothing to pick. He was suppose to got to the flat and Bowman was suppose to cover the deep route. So that was Bowmans fault not Contes

According to the majority of experts I've heard today, as well as Trestman - with the cover 0 package, the D backs should have been playing man, not zone. So, when Conte turned around and stopped and let Cobb go right by him, that was the wrong move. Bowman was covering and staying with his man. Conte stopped for no reason and saw Cobb go right by him. What's even more damning is that it was only Bowman that even tried to run down Cobb. Conte was totally out of the play. Absolutely, without a doubt, that was on Conte.

Defending him is absolutely pointless. He was terrible this season. There is so much tape proving that fact that it is almost as fruitless as arguing that the Bears' defense 'wasn't that bad'. Record books and tape will tell you otherwise.

The entire defense has been bad. dont see the reason why to single him out . Um he is under contract and for a cheap price so i wouldnt be surprised if he returns, but wright ont he other hand is a FA.

It's easy to single him out, because he's seen falling down, being out of place, or totally whiffing on tackles that led to huge gains and touchdowns all season. There are actual, recorded, prove-able moments that you can point to that say - in that moment - Conte either made a bad call or a bad move when he was right there or should have been there to stop a play. Was the rest of the defense bad? Of course. Many of those plays shouldn't have even come down to the secondary needing to make the stop. But they did need to make the stop - and they didn't. I recall many season where Mike Brown would lead the team in tackles or be right up there. To me, that says the front 7 weren't doing a stellar job, but Brown was doing HIS job. When Urlacher or Briggs lead the team in tackles, that's even better. When one of the linemen leads the team in tackles, that's the best.

Get Conte off my Bears roster he is a poor tackler sub par speed and also not to smart.

FTR - Trestman said during the press conference that Conte was caught playing zone and the rest had shifted to man. He missed the change. So, there. :D

Well I was thinking nthe only way it could've been Contes fault is if he was playing the worst coverage of all time. I guess he was playing the worst coverage of all time

While Conte is clearly at fault, doesn't stuff like that also really fall onto Mel Tucker as well? I mean how many times were guys out of position or just looked like they didn't know what play was being called this year? Too many to keep track of.

Nah. The call is the call. The defensive call, according to people with greater football knowledge than I, was good. Conte failed to pick up the change that everyone else did. Not to mention he didn't even react to what was going on around him after the ball was snapped. You see someone fly by you and the other guy is covered, you sort of have to react and make the change. He didn't.

I'm not questioning the call, I'm talking about why certain guys consistently looked like they didn't know what the call was through out the year. That play where Conte screwed the pooch wasn't the only time this year it looked like guys looked lost.

Not this time. If all but one student pass a class, is the twacher at fault for the one who didn't? No

Again, I am not only talking about that one single play. I am talking about through out the season where it looked like multiple guys were out of position from game to game on certain plays.

Not trying to be a Mel Tucker apologist but there were so many unexpected people playing defense that it's not surprising to find them out of position occasionally. I'm referring to rookies and second and third stringers playing. Conte is a veteran who simply blew it. He was the clown in the Browns game where he allowed a hail Mary completion to Josh Gordon, making the ensuing kick off uncomfortable.

Also, something as simple as a shift from zone to man (you would think) would be a basic signal and shift. I don't see where a DC would have to drill that into you - especially if you are using the same lingo and schemes as you've been using for years.
