rank most valuable 2014 veteran QBs

Post#1 » by dice » Mon Dec 30, 2013 3:56 am

here they are ranked by 2014 salary cap hit (passer rating in parentheses):

21.8 romo (96.7)
20.4 eli (69.4)
18.9 big ben (92.0)
18.4 brees (101.8)
17.9 rogers (108.0)
17.6 bradford (90.9)
17.5 ryan (89.6)
17.5 payton (113.0)
16.7 rivers (105.5)
15.8 stafford (84.2)
14.8 brady (88.0)
14.8 flacco (73.1)
14.5 schaub (73.0)
UFA cutler (88.1)
UFA vick (86.5)
10.0 palmer (83.4)
7.5 a smith (89.1)

now put 'em in order of true value. note that 'passer rating' is a misnomer in that it really rates a TEAM's passing attack with a particular QB under center

i'm leaving out young guys that are on their rookie contracts

romo's #4 out of that group in career passer rating. not sure how you can have him so low. i mean, even if you dock him big for lack of playoff success, how does he end up behind cutler?

It's really a tossup. I guess I just trust Cutler more in a tight game. The fact that Romo under performs in high pressure situations time in and time out obviously played a major role in my decision. Really just a judgement call, don't really have facts to back it up.

What exactly do you mean by "true value"? Who was most valuable this year? Or who would I want going forward (because then age starts to play a major role - for example, Peyton was clearly more valuable than Rodgers this year, but if I had to pick one to start a team with I'd pick Rodgers w/o any hesitation)?
