Roscoe, I think that part of it was that not many teams had enough good 3PT shooters to take so many in the first place. Part of it had to do with players shooting forms that were effective for closer range shooting, but not for long range shooting.

You also have to realize that there are probably people who still want 60's style basketball. Sports evoke, expecting it to stay the same is weird, and it's really hard to truly argue that more effective basketball was being played because teams were still shooting from outside a lot. For the most part all that has been traded is mid-long mid-range jumpshots for 3PT shots, so it isn't like teams before weren't shooting from outside a lot themselves. The three is a better option than a 20 foot jumpshot most of the time.

Also generally as things progress we see specialization, it's the same thing in society, as we more forward, we get specialists because they make sense. For an extreme example, for the most part, a team of diverse specialists will beat a team of jack of all trades, but masters or none. Most teams don't need 5 players who want to do everything because being versatile, while nice, doesn't necessarily mean more conducive to winning. You generally want the better guys doing the creating and shot making and others playing roles that make them more effective despite being a more limited role.

Also, posting up just in itself as a whole has never been as efficient basketball as people think, and post players that people mention when they talk about it are not necessarily the norm. A lot of the post guys we talk about weren't strictly low post, they did a lot of face-up mid-post action, and a lot of the successful ones were capable mid-range shooters. Kareem, Shaq, etc are not the norm.

Also the style of play is a reaction to the defenses. Defenses have become more advanced, and it isn't necessarily as easy for teams to run offenses effectively in certain ways.

Doc should give up his gm spot. These low effort games need to stop happening.
