All-Time Fantasy League Draft (2014) - Draft Finished

Post#1 » by MisterHibachi » Thu Jan 2, 2014 5:40 pm

This is the thread for the draft for the All-time Fantasy League proposed in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=64&t=1293300

All the rules and issues have been hammered out in that thread, so I'll just recap the most important things quickly.

The draft order is as follows:

Narigo
Notanoob
Sagittaron
batmana
RSCD3_
ThunderDan9
CaliBullsFan
john248
Quotatious
DHodgkins
Bruh Man
ardee
MisterHibachi
O_6
HeartBreakKid
whitehops

There will be 10 rounds in the draft. The draft style will be ABBBABABA, which goes as follows:

Spoiler:
Round 1: a,b,c,d,e
Round 2: e,d,c,b,a
Round 3: e,d,c,b,a
Round 4: e,d,c,b,a
Round 5: a,b,c,d,e
Round 6: e,d,c,b,a
Round 7: a,b,c,d,e
Round 8: e,d,c,b,a
Round 9: a,b,c,d,e
Round 10: e,d,c,b,a

The pool from which players can be drafted is the 79/80 season on. Players like Kareem can only be drafted on their careers post-79/80 season. The requirement for drafting a player is that they must have played 75% of games each of the 3 seasons which you intend to declare them for.

Each GM has 12 hours to make their pick, and as soon as they make theirs, the next GM is right up on clock without having to wait for the previous 12 hours to finish.

After the draft, there will be a playoff tournament, matching up the GM with the first pick with the GM who picked last and so on. In the playoffs, players will be evaluated based on 3 years periods (chosen by the GM), which MUST be declared before the start of the playoffs, but are not required to be declared during the draft itself. GMs will try to persuade the judges that their team is the stronger, and they will have to set minutes and roles and a general game plan as a base from which to argue. The rules under which the playoffs will be judged are 2013 NBA rules.

Doctor MJ has volunteered to co-run the draft and the playoffs with me. The judges for the playoffs are bastillon, TMACFORMVP, penbeast0, ronnymac2, Doctor MJ, SideshowBob, Texas Chuck, and therealbig3; more people are welcome to volunteer as judges.

I think that covers all the important issues. Good luck, GMs. I will be updating the OP with the teams as they are drafted.

*posters in this thread are not allowed to mention names of players not yet drafted*

Alrighty then, Im going with 90-92 Michael Jordan as my first selection. He had the best 3 year peak out of anyone in this draft.

Nice!

Notanoob, you got 12 hours.

Btw guys, even tho Narigo did it, you don't HAVE to declare years as you are drafting.

Not allowed to talk about players not yet drafted! You mind editing the 'EDIT' out?

Re: All-Time Fantasy League Draft (2014) Thread

Post#8 » by Notanoob » Thu Jan 2, 2014 10:53 pm

Darn, I was hoping to avoid the unenviable fate of picking the next best peak after Jordan, but no miracle has assisted me. I am further compromised by being stranded in Ann Arbor because I was at the Winter Classic- my car is currently boxed in by snowdrifts from the plow truck and unable to navigate the roads anyways. However, I must make this choice. Having read this forum for a while, I can't help but feel like my choice will be getting me judged- I can only plead under-informed-ness.

But, I can make some strategic draft-based discussions. Considering the depth of centers historically, even removing two of the greatest of all time, should I just wait and land a quality one in another round? Should I go for an offensive anchor? I don't want to risk hamstringing my later selections, but shouldn't I get the best player available?

Hmmm...Hakeem. Yeah, I'll go with Hakeem.

Second pick is probably toughest. Good choice with Hakeem.

Shaquille O'Neal (seasons 1999-2000 to 2001-2002).

I am surprised that only one of my top four choices has been taken at this point (Jordan obviously) and I am taking the player I would have taken second overall. Frankly, I was unsure of how to rank 3 and 4 so I am happy I don't have to make that choice.

Was either going to take hakeem, shaq, or Iebron with the picks and I was hoping one of them would still be available.

I will be taking LeBron Raymone James

To be honest, I was considering James in addition to Hakeem. Figured that Hakeem benefited the most from this 3-year peak deal, since he sort of had separate offensive and defensive peaks over a three year period.

- Don't mention the names of players who haven't been picked yet
- If you want to discuss the picks, do it on the other thread. I think it's easier for this to be a Draft only thread

Don't want to sound like an azz but just wanted to post this so others also know. I don't think it's a big deal in your case at this point in the draft, but it could start being a problem in later rounds if people keep mentioning the names of players still available in the draft pool.

Good luck to everyone, draft looks good so far.

If I had the 2nd pick, I would've taken Shaq no doubt. He was so god damn dominant at his peak.
