I think we need to be maximizing Drummond/Smith together w/o Monroe, if we are that good defensively. It could solve a lot of our defensive issues and be winning us more games.

They should be starting and finishing together. Set the defensive tone from the start, and then use them defensively in the 4th to close out games.

We can get by with Monroe's poor defense through the middle of the game against mostly bench guys.

I'm a big believer in +/- and the +69 with only 2 together vs -82 with all 3 is very telling.

I think its time Monroe moves to the bench.

While it makes bball sense it does not make political sense in a contract year. You destroy your chances of resigning him and diminish his trade value and/or trade leverage. We should however stagger their minutes better and do a better job of featuring Monroe w/ the 2nd unit.

It was clear to anybody who knew a lick about basketball from the outset that we should have 2 out of our "Big" 3 on the court. The big criticism amongst everybody else, including the General Board, on the signing was that Smith didn't fit with Drummond/Monroe with all 3 in the lineup. They were right. Completely.

Well according to those stats, Drummond and Smith are the most efficient tandem. And it doesn't make sense to bench Monroe when he's due for a big pay rise and the fact it would severely downgrade his trade value. So trade Monroe for a SF?

That's not true. The big lineup has its advantages (PIP and rebounding) and disadvantages (poor perimeter offense/defense'). Unfortunately they just don't have the personnel yet around them to take advantage of these strengths. Because if they had two great shooter/defenders in the backcourt, there would little to no disadvantage on the perimeter anymore on either end. And the end result would be a dominant complete team in all facets of the game. So the potential is still there and hasn't changed. Its just that for the time being, until they can get the backcourt issues addressed, its probably best for the team right now to just go with two of them at a time.

That said, I don't know how they are going to address those issues with the backcourt, because Jennings is what he is on defense, and KCP is too young to expect anything major from him anytime soon. If they could somehow get Afflalo here without giving up Monroe, this jumbo lineup would be thriving in my opinion. The only way I ever thought it could work was with two great shooters in the backcourt to balance the offense. I expected Chauncey to provide one of those shooters. Just hasn't worked out and KCP can't shoot, so its not able to function to its max potential, and we're only getting half the equation (PIP/rebounds). Playing with a frontcourt like this inside is a SGs dream. We don't have any good ones that can shoot though lol, so we only end up with the inside part of the inside-out game.

I agree we're better off starting two and bringing one of the bench and considering all factors Dres probably the best candidate to be that one. as far as the numbers go, full lineup numbers are a more telling stat to me (although its a smaller sample) and last time I checked BJ/KCP/Singler/Moose/Dre was our best lineup overall.

edit- went back and looked, its only a 28 min sample size which is basically useless. it would probably be a good idea to give that lineup a little longer look , we don't have much to lose at this point.

Cheeks still has a small window of time due to the east being so bad. If Monroe needs to be traded/or moved to the bench so be it. It's kind of stunning how we are on a 3 game losing streak yet managed to move up to the 6th seed (as of tonight) from the 8th.

^That's awesome. Didn't realize that. Looks like Charlotte is in a funk too on a 5 game losing streak themselves. We're only 2 games behind Washington for 5th seed too.

That's actually hilarious. A testament to how bad the most of the teams in the East are.

Sadly, Joe D's job is all but secured due to the rest of the East being in shambles

Monroe should be moved for a small forward. I like Monroe more than Smith, but Monroe isn't a power forward, he's a center. Drummond is this team's center, so there's really no reason to keep Monroe going forward. Get a quality small forward, or a lesser small forward and a pick and move on.
