Official MLB Draft Thread
Well, the draft is tomorrow so lets have a thread on it.
I've heard the Red Sox are interested in High School LHP Casey Crosby. Throws in the low 90's with a slow curve. Should be interesting who they get.

Sickel's group mock has the Sox taking Kentrail Davis at 55. I would actually pay for that to happen in real life.

I understand you hate Gammons and think hes a homer (which is true, yet he is still a very good reporter), but he does have some pretty good sources. Him and Henry are close and he has been with Henry at a couple games in the press box so I highly doubt he just pulled this one out of thin air.cmaff051 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
Peter Gammons said that.
I don't see them putting an extra $20M into the draft and going crazy, but they'll still probably put a bit more than usual into it.

Decent draft. Will Middlebrooks was a complete steal whether he was drafted as a hitter (that's my guess) or a pitcher. Massive upside as either but we sure could use that bat from 3B.
I'm hoping for a few more big upside-signability guys tomorrow like Tanner Robles, Chris Carpenter, Kentrail Davis, Chad Jones, etc.
Sucks that we gave up Porcello thanks to Lugo but at least he didn't land with the Yankees. BA said the Tigers wouldn't spend for Porcello earlier this morning and when he got close to the Yankees I thought they were going to get him and I was more pissed.
I had to go out and I come home to see they landed Brackman (Bard's twin, with injuries) instead of Porcello and the fact that the Red Sox missed out on Porcello didn't hurt quite as much as before.

Sox added a bunch of really tough signs. If they can just land a couple of them, this will be a pretty damn good draft.
To name a few:
Will Middlebrooks- Probably a lock to sign with how high they took him.
Scott Green
Justin Grimm
Yas Grandal
Nick Tepesch
Matt Presley
Austin Bailey
The ones I like most are Green, Grimm, Presley and Tepesch (and Middlebrooks of course; but I'd be stunned if they don't pay him).
Green and Tepesch will be the toughest signs of them all. Green is a draft eligible sophomore with a huge upside and if he goes back to school and stays healthy...he'll likely be 1st rounder next year.

The Red Sox, like I thought, picked several tough signs.
We'll see if they can nab a few of them, I'm very sure about Middlebrooks. I agree about Green being really tough.
btw BG, get your Lugo jersey yet? I guess the good news for you guys is that Porcello didn't end up with the Yankees. The Tigers future rotation looks nasty.
