Jazz trade- w Bynum, Waiters, and #1 pick?
Jazz fan here, coming in peace to suggest a trade.
ESPN is reporting " Jazz now reported by ESPN Stein in Jefferson-Bynum deal. I would have to assume talks have to be around a deal I suggested above which is Bynum, Waiters and Cavs #1 for Kanter, Jefferson and GSW #1 -
Would Cleveland do this deal???
Please counter this trade suggestion with alterations to make a fair trade.
I've read how Waiters is very talented, but underperforming. You are smart to cut Bynum.....trading him might net you something.
Jefferson has a huge $11M expiring contract.....Kanter is 21 and talented offensively. Does Cleveland value him?
Do you like that trade?

Get out of here with that nonsense. Don't need Kanter at all at least not if it costs Waiters

I went ahead and merged that (terrible) trade idea with our trade thread. If more comes out of this rumor we can make a separate thread for such an idea.

Now reports are Grant wants Jefferson? What the hell is wrong with this man? How about targeting someone who won't be retired within the next two years FFS.

We gotta get Jabari/Wiggins!! these proposed moves make us a 8-12 seed

Cavs aren't going to get Jabari or Wiggins. If we miss the playoffs we'll be a later lottery team. There's still good value there in 2014. We have a ton of assets and picks in the next 3-5 years. Not to mention loads of cap-space. If we miss the playoffs, which I think is certainly possible (but hopefully not) we still have more than enough time and flexibility to become a very good team in the East.

Not saying you guys need Jefferson. But the Cavs need some quality veteran leadership. He has been amazing for the Jazz this season. Changing the culture on a team is just as important as getting good players.

Yes, we do need to change the culture. Jefferson is nice and all, but I question the need for a short term patch on our biggest need. I don't really think Bynum by himself is going to net anything more than a short term fix like Jefferson. But if we move Waiters, we are creating another hole to fill, and Kanter may or may not turn out to be a good player but unless we move Andy in another deal we would have far too many 4/5 players on the roster.
Our roster is so devoid of 2/3 position talent and so heavy at the 4/5 position that it makes it difficult to fill a need with a long term solution without creating another need.

He lost the Hickson trade in my opinion. The protection on that pick is ridiculous. He basically traded him for casspi and a 2nd then went on to use the 4th overall pick to draft a player very similar to the one he just traded.

I completely disagree with you there, but even if you do think he lost that deal the amount of times he has fleeced the other GM's in every other trade is ridiculous. You can rip on Grant all you want for his drafting and free agent signing abilities but his trade negotiations have been A+.

I'd credit every trade that Grant has "won" more to Gilbert's willingness to take on salary as opposed to Grant's trading skill.

Re: Trade Ideas - Part 2
I generally agree with this but the fact that we're even discussing a trade wherein the Lakers would save $20 million, yet we're the ones discussed to be including other assets, makes me lose faith. If the Lakers aren't throwing in a 1st round pick, these discussions never should have progressed this far. The fact that they have progressed, and that we are the idiots adding assets to the deal, shows me either grant lost his edge or there is some other factor at play (like Dan saying get the deal done at all costs) that is trumping Grant's negotiation skill, and that gives me a bad feeling about this.B Mac wrote:fart wrote:I have a feeling Grant is about to get fleeced by the Lakers.....

The only thing that ever needed to be negotiated was the protection on the pick the lakers should be sending us in this deal. But that's obviously not happening and that's why some people aren't exactly trusting grant this time.

Wow. I just read their thread on the subject. Several of them think they are going to get Waiters or Tristan. Even their voices of reason who tell those guys they're crazy for thinking that go on to say that they will get Karasev and a 1st rounder. Those guys must not know how Chris Grant works in trades.
If that truly is the cost for Gasol, which it's not, then the Cavs will simply keep him and then trade him as an expiring by the trade deadline. There is no reason to give up assets to save the Lakers $20 million.
Pretty hilarious to read their posts though.

Hickson is on his fourth team in the NBA on a pretty expensive contract. Sometimes when you are trading mediocre players, you get mediocre returns. It's not Grant's fault that Sacramento is an annual lottery team.

I think it would be hard to argue that JJ and Tristan are not very similar players. And Hickson is making $5 million per year for three years. That's absolutely a bargain contract compared to the contracts of other similar bigs in the league.
