CP3 out 3-5 weeks
As I mentioned in another thread, this probably shifts the Pacific Division over to the Warriors to lose.
It also may mean welcome Stephen Curry, your starting point guard in the NBA All Star Game.

Wish I had said we should give Marshall a tryout instead of continuing To think Bazemore could be a PG...oh wait
Not that I think he'll amount to much but it's clear the guy can do what we would need from a backup PG. And he's scoring decently too

Besides the fact that Melo would possibly be making the super max I don't think it's absurd. They've seen their rough ceiling with the current core which has been two first round exits and one sweep in the second round. Blake's strengths are he's an elite athlete with a good motor. He's a really good rebounder and a pretty good post scorer and ball handler and passer (however these skills are not needed as much with CP3). He's not a good defender and his lack of a jumpshot (although it's getting better) is not a great fit with DJ.
DJ is a top 5 rebounder in the NBA and Melo averages 9 a game so I don't think they lose much there. Melo is a solid post scorer and not a great defender but not significantly worse than Blake. Now add the fact that Melo can be an elite scorer in catch and shoot situations (see Olympics) and has 3 point range you can see he's a better fit with CP3 than being a recipient of a few lobs.
I'd be much more scared forcing CP3 to pass to Melo in a close game than forcing him to kick it out to Blake Griffin for a jumper.
Clips should maybe get a little more but Knicks don't have a ton to offer on that front which makes a trade partnership a little more difficult

Hey y'all just wanted to share a story. I was at the game in Atlanta last night wild finish. Met curry and Thompson pregame and they both signed. Curry signed for almost everyone that wanted one. He was one of most fan friendly superstars I've met. They signed the same ball for me it's sick in silver sharpie. I'm a bulls fan but def jumping on warriors bandwagon now

Spurs are beating Clippers 70-35 at the half right now. This is insane.

Melo is likely gone in the offseason. Can't imagine he'd want to stay on a trash team when he can go to a winning team and still make huge money in a top market.
This makes sense for both teams. Easier to build around a big and Iman has been great lately for NYK. The Clippers need to re-jigger their formula, as someone mentioned they've seen their ceiling. Hell, their ceiling was determined years ago (this is basically the CP3/West/Chandler NO team). Melo changes the game for them, and I think DeAndre will be sufficient for them down low. You could even go with Melo as a small ball 4 for long stretches.
I'd have two concerns on the Clippers end though. 1) If this isn't the right move, you're ****. Once you get Melo on a super massive deal, that's your formula and you have to stick with it. 2) LAC frontcourt depth is horrid.
It's a roll of the dice for sure, but NYK might barely get the better end of the deal.

Good lord. Didn't we offer max contracts to Brand and Arenas that year that they both thankfully declined?

On Friday night's game where JR did the airhead shot.... Their announcers even talked about how low Melo's team winning percentage is when he gets the last shot to decide a game.
I wish LAC does the trade. Melo is going to make LAC even more me first team and will be the next NYK.

Cohan was pissed at Sterling for tampering with Baron and he went out of his way to breakup their plans.
I'm glad Baron didnt re-sign.

Same. I'd seen good and bad baron here. I knew wed get more of the latter if he signed a big deal.
