Chandler Parson's Contract

Post#1 » by inquisitive » Wed Jan 1, 2014 9:00 pm

Good article by David Weiner(Bima Thug) on CP's contract situation going forward:

http://rockets.clutchfans.net/5862/chan ... am-option/

Back on April 8, 2013, I (re)wrote a piece explaining the intricacies of the NBA player contract of Chandler Parsons. This article is not intended to supersede that prior piece but rather is meant to expand upon it in certain respects and to explore the salary cap mechanics of Parsons’s contract this summer and next, depending on what avenue the Houston Rockets elect to take regarding Parsons. For those who have not yet read the prior piece, I encourage you to do so, as it will provide some background that will be helpful in understanding some of the concepts addressed here.

Also, back on September 10, 2013, Ben DuBose wrote an opinion piece about the Parsons contract situation. It is a terrific read.

This article is intended solely as an analysis of the salary cap effects of certain decisions that the Rockets make with respect to Parsons’s contract and is not intended to express an opinion on such decisions.

The Partial Guarantee And The Team Option

By Parsons having not been waived by the Rockets before January 1, 2014, Parsons’s salary for the 2014-15 season ($964,750) is now partially guaranteed for $624,771; and if Parsons is not waived by June 30, 2014, his 2014-15 salary becomes fully guaranteed.

Bima Thug routinely puts Houston sports journalists to shame. Thanks for sharing this!

That said, according to RealGM rules we only allow the first three paragraphs from an outside article to be posted. I'm editing it down, but encourage people to check out the link since it is a good article. I'm keeping the first five entries since I don't really consider two of them to be paragraphs...but then again, the English language is nearly dead anyway, so I'll allow it.

Good info, but I am fairly certain there is zero chance he becomes a restricted free agent.

Yeah I agree, if you look at how the current salary structure is setup with Lin and Asik's contracts expiring next year, and Morey's hard stance on the 4th yr player option that he wouldn't budge on for Dragic, it seems to clearly indicate that Morey is targeting the 2015 off season where there are a number of high profile UFA (Kevin Love and LMA for example). Declining the team option to let Parsons test the RFA market means you won't have max money to target those 2015 UFA, so it really is contingent on if management thinks they would win with a Harden + Howard + Parsons core. So what they ultimately decide to do will speak volumes on their assessment of the roster at that point in time.

If Parsons were to hit the FA market though Nicolas Batum's contract is a good barometer. Personally I think Batum is the better overall player so I'm assuming Parsons would get a slightly smaller contract.

It's OK he can make more money as a fashion model than as an NBA player.

Rockets need a SuperStar type player.... to lead Harden and Howard...

that only happens if there is no Parsons, Lin and Asik...

I think that you are really underselling Parsons' impact on this team.

of course Parsons has a big impact on the team

I just think Parsons will be a big piece in the Rox being able to bring over a Superstar player...

probably a deal clincher as they try and trade Lin and Asik

Parsons' #25 is going to be retired by the Rockets right next to Clyde's 22, Calvin's 23 and Moses' 24. Maybe his will say Parsons/Horry though.

Chandler was on Inside Stuff today for a quick segment. Said #25 is the number he's always worn in HS and College. it's because his birthday is on the 25th. He said Lin is the quietiest guy on the team while Harden is the craziest. (Way to give us the insider secrets Chandler!)

Parsons has already complained about Sticky ball syndrome...

I will predict he will ask to be traded in the next 3 or 4 years...

If we are talking about Chandler Parsons in the next 3-4 years then that means that he re-signed here.

Good Job, Morey!

If no big name player wants to come play for the Rox.... then I think they need to pony up the cash and sign Parsons even if he gets ridiculous offers when he hits Free Agency

this team would still be pretty good without a 3rd star.... if Howard and Harden would just PNR the majority of the time together.... then they would just need to trade Lin and Asik for complimentary player(s) and sign Parson up long term

definitely have a better shot at a Chip than Harden ISO when they need a basket...

at least with the PnR your involving more than 1 player in the mix

problem is we have a ball handler who's unwilling to pass the ball unless he's going to get an assist and a big man who's unwilling to run a pick and roll

I think it's obvious how critical Parsons' is to this team and he needs to get paid.
