As of this morning on Jan 6, we are 11th (although we quality for the playoffs because we are in the East). If we drop just a little lower, we could very easily keep our pick.

The outlook HAS changed a little bit on this front. 28 games is now the max to get into the bottom 8.

That means 14 more wins and 48 games to go. That's a 14-34 record for the rest of the way.

That's still one of the worst teams in basketball, but suddenly not as unfeasible as it appeared to be a while back.

Of course, I'm still projecting we have at least one more decent run of games in us before the year is out, and even one 8 game stretch in which we win 6 games would make it real, real tough.

I'm not advocating tanking at this point, just sorta playing around with numbers.

Mediocrity is an overly generous term for a team that's failed to win 30 (or the equivalent, in the case of the shortened season) in the last 4 years. 40-45 wins is mediocrity.
